Default HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

I was at the local races and saw a CRX HF with B16a1 with I/H/E and he got killed by a CRX with B18a and thats all he had. They were dead even off the line and he just pulled a car lenth and stayed there the whole time. Now you would think with 30 more HP and the bolt ons that he would of caught up. But he even said he had me the whole time.

Should i be spending my money on a b16 or a b18a with 30 less HP and no Vtec

I don't know, b16 are great motors, and have more power, but I have been overly happy with my b18a.....I like its torque......it has a lot more than my d15 did.

Just build a lsvtec motor and use it.....that is what I would like to do eventually(or was that CRVTEC....hmmmm :evil grin:

Oh yeah, if I had felt like spending extra, I would have gotten a VTEC motor also, but I came across a decent price on the b18a and went with it.

I have had both. The B18a has a ton of torque sure, but the B16a would just plain murder it in a race. Three explanations to the race:

1] Bad driver
2] Tired B16a
3] The B18a wasnt as stock as you think. lumpy idle anyone?

maybe the b16a was throwing codes and wasnt running properly...

or bad driver...b16a should definitly win

What were the times...

i know both the guys they were as said before and no codes and no other mods than listed the guy with the b16 could of been a bad driver but hes killed a ton of other people when i talked to him he said he just has more TQ than me thats all. I just said "oh" (with a miessed up look on my face). i've heard that more are going with non vtec.

Uhhh, might be a prob with the wiring harness or the swap in general. My buddy had a 90 CRX DX-ZC, i/e/h, cam gears, 90 LS ECU, FPR and MSD, my ladies 89 CRX Si D16A6 with "mystery ECU" (chipped but we don't know by who, got it for $20), i/e beat him by a hood...his car was known to have a bad swap (done by a shop that didn't give a FIZNUCK: **** RICH and PERFORMACE SOLUTIONS damn crooked bitch) and probably a bad engine too so that might be part of it as well.

You all have missed a very important question. What tranny was the b18 using? A b18 with a b16 tranny will kill a b16 at the track. If it was a stock b18 with the ls tranny then... any of those other things are valid...

if i was your friend with the B16A i'd be pissed, if anything the B18 should take it off the line, but the B16A should easily catch up.

bad driver/motor/launch/swap

pick one

Incorrect statement. Bah...ever had either of these motors? Bah...B16a wins everyday.

I second Blown90hatchs statement. I used the same tranny on both of my motors (S1 by the way), and its no comparison. B16a hands down. If you said you've seen him beat lots of other ****, then its probably not a stock B18a. This really is getting to be a pointless thread.
FACT: All things being equal, a B16a will beat a B18a in a drag.
