Noise coming from engine after I turn off car???
I've always heard some noise coming from the engine compartment after I turn the car off. It sounds like its releasing some sort of pressure from somewhere. Do any of you know what it is that is making that noise and why? It basically sounds like air escaping from somewhere , sort of like a hissing noise for about a second or two. I'm pretty sure theres nothing wrong with the car, but I was just wondering what that noise is.. Thanks guys

speaking of noises, does any where a low humming/whining sound? I hear this occasionaly even though the car is not running. Seems like it happens after I close a door, the trunk, or even after I lower off the jack. It's hard to describe, but I heard the same noise from yeahLS' ITR when he closed his trunk.

"Gas vapor" recovery from the gas tank. Me thinks
When the pressure sensor on the tank reads a certain psi.. the "fumes"? are pumped/purged thru the evap. system.
XR4racers's 4-runner makes that sound all the time...

nope, it's definitely not the shocks. It comes from somewhere underneath the car. It's hard to pinpoint b/c it's such a low hum/buzz sound that it seems like it's coming from the whole bottom of the car ???

it is definitely an electrical kidna sound or buzz...common peeps...maybe the people who have turned their 00+ itrs to racecars know!!!
yeah ls, how did that mudda fugga rip you off. i live on the east coast and for the right amount of money i might go up there and fock him up for you.
yeah the right kind of shizit...how about you jack his car and just send me the vafc he owes me. see i traded my ITR wing for his vafc. i sent my wing, he did not send the vafc. he also would not respond to me...bitch *** ****...so...you down?
i'm curious with that humming noise as well. Everytime in the morning, when i back my car out, drive maybe 15ft and hear this buzz noise. weird..
That noise is the ABS system. It will only make it once the car has rolled forward (ABS sensors have recieved a certain reading) a set ammount.

if you have a intake its just the intake making noise as you shut off the engine i'm sure you all have heard how it sounds at idle with the hood open "the slight hissing noise"
im pretty sure it has somethign to do with the intake, when i had my aem on, it was way more pronounced, and also if you turn off your car, then turn the ignition back to on really quickly, it sounds sort of like a pop, like its sucking and then finally it sucked something up. i dunno if this is good/bad for the car, but its just what i've discovered.
i've heard this hiss from 2 of my other friends with gsr's and aem's.

i know what you guys are talking about... the intake thing.. But what i hear is something like air leaking out. It can't be from intake because all i have is a comptech drop in. I hear it from somewhere near the firewall. BTW.. the gas vapor thing sounded more reasonable.
edit: it only happens a second after I turn off the car. thats it.. not when i turn on the car. The sound I hear when i turn on the car and start to go is in fact the ABS. I'm just unsure about the noise when I turn off the car.

okay guys its not the intake nor is it the abs...the car can be sitting for like 2 hrs and sometimes when i close the door or trunk i hear the buzz...so far no one has a clue
That sound.. when the car has been sitting is the "Gas vapor" recovery process.

Actually this is a well documented problem:
The noise you hear is in fact the gerbils that power your car gasping for breath, joyus that they are no longer required to spin their little wheels to 8400 (or more) rpm.
I am told that Honda engineers are working around the clock to produce something known internally as the "Super Gerbil", so that Honda/Acura owners around the nation are no longer annoyed by these pants of pain.
There have been problems though; block structual integrity has been compromised in order to retrofit vehicles with the new varmits, so some internal sources at Honda are suggesting that a fix is not as easy as shoving a bigger gerbil under the hood. They are also looking at closed deck options, in order to reduce noise emissions.
I, for one, am in favour of bigger gerbils. This gives me just one more excuse to update my braking, strutural and suspension components.

Hey yeahLS and yosh, I know that exact same noise youre talkign about! My car makes a whining/humming noise just out of nowhere also. Mine seems to be coming from the drivers side door. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the powerlock system somehow, b/c when I leave em locked or unlocked or jus one unlocked the sounds will appear/disappear
