Default 98 or 103 octane

Gday

My 1994 AUDM Prelude is Powerchipped for 98 octane fuel. The car is supposed to run on 95octane as standard. I have access to 103 octane unleaded (my friend has a few drums, he seems to think its 98 with Nulon Pro Street octane boost or something but it might be legit 103 juice) and was wondering if this would be good to run, or will it shorten the engine life?

Thanx

Do you understand what the octane rating is?
Higher octane gas isn't going to give you more power alone...

it wouldn't shorten engine life, but there woudln't be any benefit.

i wouldn't bother, unless you know how old the fuel your friend has is - if it's pretty old the octane number is probably lower anyways, so what's the point?

I didnt ask if it was going to give me more power, I just wanted to know if it would be ok to run.
I'll stay on the safe side and keep running on the normal 98stuff.

Thanx 4 the help!

He's right running higher octane is absolutely a waste. Your going to get like no gains from it, and basically the gas station you buy that gas from is owning you. Octane required is a function of your engines compression. Unless your 12:1 or something your just wasting money.

Ive had it dynoed (a long while ago) with both 95 and 98 octane and the 98 is slightly better. 95 is about $1.06 and 98 $1.13 so theres bugger all diff. (I get a 6c/L discount aswell ) So the station isnt owning me that bad, also the chip is optimised for the 98 so I pay the tiny bit extra for the tiny bit of extra performance.

Prob not worth getting the 98 chip over the 95 but who cares, its done now.

BTW: My mate tried the fuel in his commodore and it runs BAAAAD, there is now a heap of scunge in his tank and all the probs that go with it.... Good thing I stayed clear, Thanx for saving my ***
