Header problems........ BOOOO!!!!
I bought my car from this guy here in Phx. It had the motor(B16A1) 'professionally' installed at a shop here. When I bought it, the pan was crushed in one part and the sump mouth was bent inside. So I replaced it w/ a Mugen baffled pan. When I went to take the collector off to get the pan off, I ran into problems. The pinheads put the double-sided bolts into the header portion in, then put the collector on and IMPACTED it all together. So even when I tried to break it free w/ a 18" long 1/2" drive ratchet I got nothing. So I pulled out my trusty breaker bar(3'), and proceeded to shear all 3 bolts from the header.
The nuts were so tight, they actually backed some of the threads out before the bolts sheared.
I took it to 2 different machine shops that said they can't get them out, or I should buy a new one. Or they will charge me hourly. A new one is $400 through HASport. Does anybody got any ideas? I tried heat, tried tapping it, and cussing at it didn't do too much either.

i couldnt get my bolts out of my d16a6 exhaust mani either...theyre rusted in position for life
i have a powerfull impact, all it did was knock the corners off the nut..theyre just rounded now
so now i have nothing to bolt my b16 exhaust mani to the downpipe, i dont know where i could get those kind of bolts either...anyone got any idea?
why do you need to get them out bishop? i would just suggest forgeting about it and moving on..

he needs to remove it to take off his oil pan.

X-Static, you can buy the double-threaded bolts and the appropriate nuts from you're local Honda dealership. I had to call a few, but found everything at one place. It came to around $12 for all 3 w/ nuts. All B-series headers use the same hardware.
I actually got the oilpan off. The nuts didn't fail, the bolts themselves did. When I used the breaker bar, they popped like knuckles. Oops.

this is what im thinking..it takes some manuvering but it will come out as one piece...i got my a6 exhaust mani out as one piece with the xmember in place..but it would have been much easier with it off...its only 6 bolts and its real simple to take off
just remove the 4 bolts bolting the xmember to the chassis then remove the 2 bolts on each side that conncet the xmember to the front LCA's..then it just slides out, no big deal
i assume since your rockin a b16 you dont have a front mount, unless your using the HCP 4mount kit or something. Thanx for the advice on the threaded bolts, im gonna try to make a trip to honda tomorrow. I feel your pain, i hate life without my 4G

Guys, I already have the header/ downpipe portion apart. I have them both out of my car. I'm trying to remove the bolts that are stuck in the header portion.
I think I'm going to have a machine shop mill them as thin as possible buy putting a hole straight through them, then try to use a hammer and chisel to crush it in the center, breaking them away from the header threads. I'd rather pay some guy $100 bucks to fix it, than buy a new one for 4 hundey.
How come I can only add 5 posts in 24 hours.
What's the deal? How do I change that?

I picked up my Exh. manifold from the machine shop yesterday after work! $100 lighter and I took it home and put it in yesterday. These guys were awesome, the bolts threaded cleanly into the manifold up to the shoulders. The down pipe went in perfectly. I'm fixing my brakes tonight after work.(SS lines came in yesterday!) I will be in shape to drive to work Sat. morning.
