Default something interesting happens when i open my window...

when i open my window while driving, really hot air comes out behind the console towards my feet, and in between my e-brake console



wth is going on?
its ONLY when i open my window

might be cold up where you live that's why. just my guess

does it do it everytime you open the window?

I get hot air from my e-brake all the time. I usually ride around with the windows or roof open, so I figured it's just one of those things that the civic does.

My cat isn't too far from there, so I think it's just radiant heat, with the window open, there's a pressure difference inside the car that makes it more noticeable.

opening a window prolly lets a vacuum occur inside the cabin to make the heat coming fromthe ebrake area come in....

whoa, weird. Same exact thing happens to my friends 92 civic hatch. We just thought it was some weird *** ****, never bothered to look into why it does that..

im thinking of getting a piece of plexiglass and just taping it to the back of the console near where our legs are, and i dont know about what im gonna do wheere the e-brake is, maybe ill get a boot for it or something..

It's not a vacuum, they only exist in space; but there is a pressure differential. The fast air moving over / outside the shell of the car creates a lower pressure inside of the cabin.

Since the exhaust / cat is right next to the hole in the chassis, the hot air in this area can be pulled into the cabin. The reason other cars don't do it, is due to the seal / boots in the area, location of the exhaust piping and other model specific factors.
