Can overfilling your oil cause the engine light to come on?

Default Can overfilling your oil cause the engine light to come on?

I think I've overfilled my engine oil and just this morning I the check engine light came on.

What should I do now?

You think? Go pull the dipstick out. It should be inbetween the 2 dots. Full is at the second dot. If you are over then drain the oil out. Depending on what engine you have 4 or 4.2 quarts fills it. Pull the code for the CEL and see what it says.

Exactly! You don't want to drive around with too much oil. Drain it as soon as you can and make sure it has the proper amount. Good luck!

definately drain some out to the right amount, if you overfill you can blow seals and everything else, could be really damaging.
