Default Nevada Open Road Challenge

I am very pleased to announce that after a very eventful weekend, my wife (aka "navigator"/passenger) and I (driver/navigator) took second place in the 100mph class, missing first place by 2/100 sec. There were 10 other vehicles in our class, and I was driving the only Accord in the event. BTW, this was our first time at the event.

It's your average speed goal for the run, IIRC.

Congratulations! I would so much like to do one of those some day. Just live on the wrong side of the country right now.

Far! We had a guy from New Zealand who shipped his vehicle and funded our team (Team Invaders). Last weekend we had guys from Virginia Beach, Florida, Philadelphia and Ontario, just to name a few.
Some guys fly over and rent a Vette or Mustang for the race.
BTW, National Geography was filming a documentary about speed and weekend racers, and I hope they show my vehicle (blue Accord #167). I don't know when they are going to air the program, but be sure I'll let everybody know.

There is also an open road event in the Big Bend area of Texas...that's what I'm shooting for next year in the camaro.

All of those interesting in participating at this event let me know, there were way too many Vettes, Mustangs and Porches. That's why they created Team Invaders, for the other guys, like us with japanese/german/british cars.
Here you, my little blue baby. Looks so good at 100mph

More pics. Enjoy
Before parade around Ely, NV

Car exposition at the park

Please note wheels and tires. They didn't pass tire tech, twice.

See stock tires and wheels, they passed tech. Had to get them from Vegas the night before the race (8 hours round trip)

Over two hour waiting by the side of the road after one of my teammates flipped his BMW 850 three times, and the road was red-flagged to clean debris.

Your cage builder got the tubes really close to the A-pillar and roof on that Accord...

What cage? I don't have one, the interior is stock. I wish I could get a cage.

One of the Mopar magazines ran an ex-cop car '80s Dodge brick in the 120mph class that we built special shocks for. I talked to him last week and he finished second or third in a primarily Corvette and Camaro class and he had a ball.

Sounds pretty interesting but I too would have concerns running even the lower average speed class cars with limited to no crash protection. I heard there was a "big accident" but knew nothing more. Hope the folks were OK and had enough safety gear. There seem to be a few fatalities every year or so in only a handful of open road, high speed events. Weekend racing is fun but crashing bad and severe injury or death can put a damper on the weekend.
