So, earlier today I'm bragging about how I've never been in an accident and have never gotten pulled over. And also that my 88 crx si is one of the few still in mint shape.

Blame it on karma or what you will, but then tonight I'm on the way to the movies with a friend and we are meeting up with some other people there. Im stopped at a red light and get rear ended really really hard. When I realze what happened I fly out of my car towards the car behind me... so mad and overcome by some power ready to give them hell.... when I see its my friend who i was meeting up with. It was a coincidence we were there at the same time cause we were going seperately. Pics dont show the damage well but here it is...







I guess the possitive side is that it will be one less set of altezzas on the road I shaved and have been polishing my stock tails and was gonna put them on soon. You can see in the 3rd pic that the rear quarter panel buckled. The hatch also doesnt line up right with the body. I wont really know how bad the damage is until i take off the tails and rear bumper cover... but the lock for the hatch is crooked so im a little afraid :/ Plus on the way home i smelled gasoline... but i dont see how it could be related.

I know it will be covered and fixed, but i was planning on selling the car soon and hope it doesnt kill the resale value.

 

You probably were leaking exhaust into the pasenger compartment, thus, the gas smell.

You got rearended because of the Altezza's, definitely. Buddy Jesus hates altezza taillights.

I joined Buddy Jesus in the hatred the day I put them on my car. At least they are broken now. I'll leave them on when I get the car fixed so I can hopefully get some new stock ones.

Im not sure if im just gonna have my friend pay for, or go through insurance. If we go through insurance, then I will be sure to suck them dry... I wouldnt screw over my friend though. She felt really bad. Supposedly she pressed the gas by accident instead of the brake. I know that a REALLY stupid thing to do, but I sorta almost did that once when I was alone on an empty road.

Got three estimates today. Summary: its totaled. All are between $3000 and $4000.

Its funny cause all three places didnt know what kinda car it was, including the collision center at a honda dealership. One guy was looking for my car in a book, and there was no CRX and then I saw he was looking under 98, not 88. All three were suprised how old the car was, which made me feel good Bad though, that the car is a total loss.

that car is a write off if u go through insurance...looks like my 90 hatch when it got rear ended, insurance wrote it off...but they did let me keep the car and gave me what I payed for it so it wasnt a total loss

I hope ur friend has money to fix it or pay for the spike in insurance next year

My friends parents wrote me a check out of pocket for the car today... $2450. Im very happy with that. I was planning on selling it soon and i would have been happy to get that much for it. So now I've got the money for the car... and I still have the car

Since the car is technically a total loss as far as fixing it goes, and it isnt worth that much in parts, I should have some fun with it. Im thinking i can start by cutting off the roof or something

I made over 1000bucks parting out my 90Si Civic and CRX parts are harder to come by so I cant see why you wouldnt be able to get a 1000+ bucks parting it out

not to mention it still looks fully driveable
