more power out of auto?????
im wondering if there is a problem with having a automatic trans? i have one and i want to pull some hp out i got cold air and im working on exhaust but other than all that is there anything out there for me?
the problem w/ an automatic transmission is the fact that it has a torque converter instead of a clutch. it's basically like two fan blades facing each other and one's connected to your engine and one to your gearbox. a clutch in a manual tranny directs a lot more of the power to the wheels. one option u can do is a stall converter which means it won't put down power till a certain rpm and makes u launch faster. i've never seen em for honda's though.

no, just scrap the transmission. there is nothing wrong with the engine.

There is a few options you can do.
1. I would recommned superchrging it. The tranny will hold and its a nice little boost.
2. Might want to motor swap. I know they make auto b18c1 motors. that might be a way to go to get more power.
3. like every one said..change the tranny. but IMO i would go the supercharger route. cheaper then the swap and you will be making some good numbers.

cheaper than the swap what swap?!
maybe a auto GSR but not cheaper than if he just converted to manual. he would still have more than enough money to turbocharge the motor once its swapped to 5 speed then blows the doors off an asscharged auto single cam.
suprerchargers do not belong on 4 cylinders.

"suprerchargers do not belong on 4 cylinders" that statement is the biggest crock of **** i've ever heard. there is many 4 bangers with them putting out decent numbers

yea decent numbers but for the money they arent worth it.

Auto is slow and gay. Sure, you could go with forced induction, but then your tranny will destroy itself after a month. Just get it the hell out of there. Get a 5 speed swap.

Funny you should say that. It's similar to how people bash Honda automatics and it simply isn't true. Honda automatics are unique to all other kinds of automatics and are very similar in design to manual transmissions. They are quite strong, the only downfall being that the clutch packs are a little small. But that's easy enough to take care of, $220 in parts and $250 in labor to rebuild it bullet proof, or get the book and do the labor yourself. Go to summit and order the TCI auto trans race master kit. Well that's if you have a D series. I also got the TCI high stall converter, very streetable, and makes quite a difference, but at $670 its probably not what you're looking for and it's not necessary to get decent performance out of your auto. Couple that trans rebuild with a auto trans cooler and some TCI RTF, Redlines racing ATF, or some other decent fluid and your trans will never fail you unless you abuse it like an idiot. The shifts are so incredibly fast with no slipping. Very solid and strong, the envy of any manual trans die hard that is lucky enough to ride in my passenger seat.
What I mean by abuse, and where Honda autos get their bad reputation other than the fact that it is a prejudiced notion carried over about all autos in general, is that people bash the crap out of them and then whine when the fail. If you don't change the fluid, if you overheat the trans, or if you rev it up in neutral and drop it into gear, you will quickly destroy the trans.
You can do anything to an auto that you can do to a manual, with the exception of some applications like an AEM V2 or a DC 4-1, but there's always AEM CAI or DC 4-2-1, so you're fine. And obviously you don't get a lightened flywheel or upgraded clutch. That's where your TCI master rebuild kit comes in. One thing that people don't know is how well autos respond to turbocharging, due to the massive torque multiplication from the torque converter everyone so ignorantly bashes on. It spools up the turbo nicely. Then there's the fact that you never lose boost unless you let off the throttle, because an auto trans never disengages from the engine during the shift. During the shift the torque winds up in the torque converter and suddenly lets go knocking you back in your seat. It's pretty nice for anyone that has experienced it.
Big drawback of autos is that there are not many LSDs available for them unless you have an Integra. But a front lower tie bar and aftermarket crossmember go a long way.
Manual transmissions are stone age ****, due to the clutch that disengages all the time leaving you with no power between shifts. Not so bad if you master the heel toe technique, which I have down pretty solid but when driving other people's cars they always ask me what the hell I'm doing and I say "leave me alone dammit, I can't stand your stupid trans!" Autos these days are quite capable, with lock up converters, fully electronically controlled with manual override. Like on a EG Civic or Prelude, you actually have control of all four gears. If they could actually have five gears they would surpass manuals. Pretty soon everythings going to sequential trans, which is basically an automatic cuz there's no clutch. My friend has a Mazda protoge five with sequential trans, it's pretty nice. There's also the last gen prelude. Neither are perfect though.
Never ask for help on an auto at Honda Tech or at most any online forums cuz people will jump all over you and hate on you. I don't know why. But a lot of what they say is pure ignorance, so I can only assume....

if you want to build a beast, your best bet is a 5 spd swap of some sort, either just the tranny, or a motor and tranny together. But if you just want a little kick in the pants on occasion, the JRSC is good enough and the tranny will live. Get a trans cooler and some level 10 goodies, or some TCI stuff for it, and you'll be sexin in no time. Remember, if you turbo, keep the turbo small... really small. I mean, on every OEM turbo car the 5 spd has a larger turbo than the auto... that's to keep the spool reasonable. I'd do a T25 turbo for about 150-160 wheel hp, which is pretty nice and it's reasonable. Tranny will live, and you still have a 50% increase in wheel power. Not bad.
lol.. this kid has a stock car, with an intake and is "working" on an exhaust. Stay with the auto and keep surfing nopi for boltons. Don't bother with the tranmision aspects of this hobbie until you've spent atleast a couple grand.

I think it's more of a GT than a sportscar. Not saying that it wouldn't kick the snot out of most anything out there; but you're comparing apples to oranges.

You all may wanna check out http://levelten.com/ , they have alot of good kits and tranny options for auto honda's. Good info can be gained from them also. Anyone know where ya can get a lsd set up for a d series auto? Just want it for turbo highway use. Hate losin traction.
Seriously I know a turbo auto coupe with y8 that gets his *** kicked by jdm d15b with just an intake. Auto trannies suck especially if you bring up the HP.

</TD></TR></TABLE> ok first thing is first... you can not swap his motor for an auto b18c.. it will not fit in a USDM .. there is no room to put a bigger motor with an auto tranny in the engine bay... second off.. it will cost just as much to swap trannies as it would to add a supercharger.. you can do a complete tranny change over for like 2000 ... i would personally save up for a swap and the conversion all at once.. so you dont have to buy parts all over again.. such as shiftlinkage, axles, ecu (unless converted auto to man), tranny,.. just buy a complete engine swap and fpr the most part the only extra you will have to buy is a third pedal.. and the installation of the tranny, maybe a few little things but i cant think of it off the top of my head at this moment

had an auto with the apexi kit and liked it. lasted for about a year and i did some of those retarded things when i first got it like neutral drops. god what a moron i was at 16. anyways, yea powerbraking when launching is great and just straight on shifting quicker than anyone i ran really proved to be a strong point.
one thing not mentioned is the incredibly tall gear ratios with auto trannys. it feels like the thing is winding forever. that could be fixed with reprogramming the ecu but i don't know of anyone that could do that.
so i switched to a 5sp ls turbo now. do i think its worth it, of course, but if i had the resources and time i'd prolly keep my auto and build it.
