if motor blows, can distributor be reused?
the pistons and crank, everything was gone when motor was opened up. i am using the distributor that came off the blown b16, and on my new motor, my vtec and rpm gauge isnt working... wires have been checked by 3 mechanics, everything is in place. i have gotten a code 22 vtec pressure valve, and changed the green sensor. anyone with any suggestions?? thanx
well if your getting CEL 22 that's why your VTEC is not engaging.
Another reason: In order for VTEC to kick in your ECU has to know has fast your going, I think it has to be going at least 15 MPH (Quote me if I'm wrong) and it gets that reading from your VSS, now if it's unplugged or broken then you will never hear VTEC and probably get code 17.
As far as your RPM not working I would get a volt meter and see if your even getting a signal to your cluster at all and if you are then you should be able to figure it out

well how can i correct that code 22?? and do you know the answer to my distributor Q? maybe thats my problem, i dont know!! or someone told me it might be my oil pump. but im thinking i would get CEL if that were the case.

what does VSS stand for?

You SHOULD be able to reuse your distributor, even though your motor popped.
VSS = Vehicle Speed Sensor
So, you're getting code 22 (VTPS), and you say its wired in, correctly?
what ecu are you using exactly?
Your tachometer not working could be due to a damaged coil or ignitor in the distributor. You might want to replace those 2 items, or even borrow a friends distributor & test it out in your car to see if that is actually the problem at all...

i have an extra distributor, i put it on, the rpms still didnt work, and i have two ecus. on is a obd1 gsr ecu chipped to single stage vtec, and my stock vx ecu which also has vtec. the thing is everything is the same as i had it with my old b16. when the new one was put in, the vtec and rpms didnt work. so im guessing it has to be something that comes on the new motor, but im not sure what those things are. its a new motor with a new Intake manifold and throttle body. can you think of anything?

Yeah the sensor on the back of the transmission is your VSS. It sits almost right under your Throttle body.
