Default Synthetic vs. regular

Is Synthetic motor oil that much better for an engine? What properties in the oil make it better, is it a wise choice to use this even with the added price? Will my engine perform better?

I usually go with 1 part synth. 3 parts regular.
I switched up to half syn. half reg. the difference was night and day, quiet, better mileage.

go with 5w 30

if you have a lot of miles on your motor don't do 5-30 it will be to thin and you will be adding quarts every couple days. synthetic only good if your going to keep using it over and over if you ever go back to regular its going to rear and tear quicker on your motor

WTF IS THIS??? rear and tear quicker on your motor??
rear and tear?

IMO oil leak is all on how good your seals are.

a quality synthetic is much better in all areas pretty much over conventional oil.

why do you think just about in every kind of auto racing synthetic oil is used?

if you drive a performance car or you got a performance lead foot, synthetic is your choice.

Actually, I've heard the same thing, and from some reputable engine builders. Switching to synthetic after running on regular for a while (maybe 100,000 miles) can remove the old oil at the seals, and consequently cause leaks because the synthetic is thinner.
