What is needed to paint a car? Has anyone ever painted their own car?
I've heard of people painting they're own car before. What is needed? And what type of place do you need to be in to paint a car. Would a big driveway with a huge shade over it work?
shops that I know have paint booths to keep out any dust. the shop near my house recently installed a $100k painting booth...
so depending on what kind of quality would satisfy you, I don't think you should do it yourself.

Yeah, if you really want it to look good, take it to a shop. BUT, you can do the prep work pretty much by yourself (primer, bondo, sanding, etc...). It's just like he said, though, without a spray booth, the final coats are gonna have bugs, dust, dirt, etc. in there...
It also depends on how far your going, such as are you just doing the outside, or do you want to take everything apart and do the inside of everything as well....
You also have to deal with overspray on everything around the paint area, plus you need a gun, compressor, tape, masking paper...I don't really care that much what mine looks like, so I did it myself with rattle cans, and it's not too bad at all
, but to each their own...

besides what's been mentioned... good shops will remove everything they can when painting... moldings around windshields, sometimes the windshield it self, the rear 1/4 panel windows on integra coupes, the side moldings on the doors and body, before painting so you have no chance of peeling.
