So I got a 89 cluster for a guy, and sent it to him, he got it, and installed it.

Everything works, except the tach. Now the tach is getting some kind of power, since he said it jumps at start up to about 1500-2000 and then goes dead. He said the circuit board (green plasitic on back) is completely different, yet everything else works.

His car is a US 89 Civic DX STD the cluster is a EDM 89 CRX 1.6 ED9.

Any ideas?

and i have a 89 std and i put a usdm 89 si cluster in there and it worked fine

should work fine. could be a problem with his car. if the ignitor or coil are on the verge of going out it could cause that

Well, it's from an ED9 (non vtec DOHC). Hmmm... I'll have him look inot hte ignitor thing, why out of curiosity would them about to go out effect the tach? Weak signal?

 

are the plugs the same on the back?
