AEM EMS not connecting to lap top?
so i tried to get my ems to connect to the lap top today and take a look around at my old map... but when i conect the serial cable it just says no ecu found??
i was told by one of the guys up here, that i have to have the ignition on to conect to the ecu?? i tried it with the ignition on, and off, and it still gave me the same message "ecu not found"
my ecu has a newer varsion of the program, and my lap top has an older version of the software.. does this make a difference???

You need to have the same firmware version on both laptop and EMS. I think this is done in the ECU tab under "install ECU".
There have also been some discussions about needing to go from anything less than V.94 to V.94 and then on to something like V1.03 If you don't it screws up the EEPROM chip and you need to call AEM tech support to have them help you.
That's what I had to do because I was also not connecting as I should have.
Also, there are some issues with serial cables connected thru your USB port on your laptop. If this problem persists I would go to the AEM website to ask the question again or just call tech support and leave a message so they can call you back.

If you are using a USB to serial adapter, that is where your problem is. you need a PCMCIA Serial card. Or you need an older laptop. This is probably what's going on. If the firmware is different, you can still connect to your EMS. I beleive your ignition has to be on the second click.
