Well, I managed to crack all 4 ringlands on the dyno on friday the 13th of Feb. and have been in the rebuild process every since. The motor is a y7 with a y8 quaife equipped tranny. Here is a pic of one of the pistons right after I pulled it out of the motor.



For my new setup, I went with the new eagle rods, cp pistons, arp's, and the full ferrea valvetrain. Finally got around to assembling the block and getting everything back together so I figured I would post up a few pics.










I got the motor in the car today and have to pick up some coolant tomorrow and i'm crossing my fingers that she starts with no issues. Opinions? Comments?

 

Looks like its got a lot of potential man! Good job on the build!

Only thing I'd be concerned about is the way you have your oil sender and oil feed right off the back of the block. I've personally seen them break off, and I had an identical setup to yours and mine managed to unscrew itself and I almost lost my motor even though I had a lot of teflon tape and screwed it in tight as **** (thanks oil pressure gauge!)

 

What kinda numbers are you looking to make with this new set up. Looks nice.

I put some heavy duty lock tite on there, hopefully that does the trick. New setup I'm shooting for 300whp, anything over that is just extra.

you say you have a y8 tranny, what kind of difference did that make when you switched from the y7 cuz i am gonna do that tommorow night well a z6 tranny that is!!!

 

not sure if you can. you have to loosen the trany a lot. now what he codl have done was loosen the axels from the spindles and then move thr trany wih the axels still attacked to the trany, but not sure if it can be done with everything attached.

Axles came off, just had them on there in the pic.

I noticed a pretty big difference going to the y8 tranny especially in 3rd gear. Pulls quite a bit harder. New turbo setup is maxrev mani/DP, t3/to4e 50 trim .48, ARPs, full ferrea valvetrain, rc550's, hondata s100b, and some other goodies that I can't remember.

 

You should be able to get the 300 horsae you want with that set-up. I was at 241 horse last week at only 13.5pounds before we had an overheating problem and had to shut down. I have a 1.7L D16Z6 with very similiar mods. good luck with the start-up and keep us informed.

 

you dont have any before and after times from the tranny switch by chance?

 

I don't have any 1/4 mile times with the turbo at all. I might be able to stir up a vid I made before and after the tranny swap. I will look into that when I get home tonight.

that's exactly what i'm doing with the spare block i have in my garage right now. my setup will be similar except for probably brands and i mite go with a t3 60 trim. only thing i won't have is the ferrea valvetrain. if you don't mind me asking, how much did that run for just parts?

it looks great though, let us know how that 50 trim spools, i'd love to do some comparisons before i make my final decision. i just stripped my block of internals and started cleaning it off yesterday and your post has me all excited to see what i may have. good luck to you and have fun breaking in that beast. much love to the stock d-series sleeves

i got a 60 trim t3/t4 and prolly under 4500 she's rollin on full boost!!!
