16 or 17" steelies? what donor?
I would like to have a second set of wheels (I might have to use the stockers) to run for autox, Basically a set with good milage tires (Falken Ziex's or something) With nice rims for daily driving and a set of really sticky tires for track days (Yoko's Advans or Azenis come to mind) and was wondering what car would have a set of steelies I would be able to get cheap for this second set of tires, I would like to get some 17's so I could fit a big brake conversion under them but I just don't know of any 17x7 or similar 5x114.3 steel wheel, accord maybe? or element? I just don't want to spend $$$ on a set of wheels that will get abused anyways.
Don't use 17's for auto-cross. No one uses big rims. Why do you need a big brake kit for auto-cross? There's no way you'll overheat the brakes on a run. Your tire choice sounds good for a budget. If you can get rims lighter than steel, you'd get slightly better performance.
oh no doubt I just don't want to spend duckets on rims that I am just going to abuse anyways, I am thinking 16" accord stockers.... 215/45 16" Falken Azenis Sports (ST-115?) will probably be suitable.
