so i just got back from the NY mazda rev-it-up..
...it was a pretty cool time!!!! a bit more than the typical autocross ($40), but much more organized, and fast paced. the course wasnt too long, but still nice, and you only got 2 runs on the course, but up to 8 on the 3 practice courses.
my best time on the main course was 30 secs, 2 seconds slower than the pro (ill get into that), and good for 6th overall (novices to pros). on the practice laps, i pulled 15 or so, this gives you an idea about the length of the courses (short. lol).
mazda basically brought out the new 3 and 6, and let you beat on it. they were modded with exh, suspension, and sticky falken azenis sports. the main course was only the mazda 3. nuttin exciting about this car. they did have all other models there that you were able to test drive on a small course, but not race. the mazdaspeed miata, with its tiny *** intercooler was good for around 170hp, but felt nimble as hell. it was an absolute blast to drive, actually a lot more fun than the rx-8 on this small, tight course. the difference b/t the rx-8 auto and manual was day and night, the only negative is that it drives like a big heavy car, with power similar to the rsx,all up high. it will prolly do decent on a road course.
so, re: the pros, mazda hired a team of people to talk about the courses and driving in general, champions from cart, indy, open wheeled, even one honda challenge guy was there! (andrew summin, cant remember, but i know he does well in the honda challenge).
all in all, it was an awesome time, a good practice for road racing (i hope i have the time!) this year.. the cars are ok, the 6 has decent power and nice handling with the susp put on. the tires made a huge huge difference, but my only complaint with them is once they get hot, they start to slide on you, and you plow through turns, even when opening up the wheel a bit. so, sort of disappointing for such a sticky tire, but im sure they are great for street use. either way, i think ill give the fk-451s a shot. a bit harder and almost as sticky..
the event runs tomorrow too, so if you have time, get there at 7 if your not preregistered, and have fun!

How many points did you accrue? Who was in the overall lead when you left?
Prolly should have just tacked your post onto this, but eh. <shrug>
Oh, and for the record, I think having the 6s for one of the practice courses was a waste of a practice session.
Very large and heavy compared to the 3s, and the experience was worthless for the competition course. I got the most out of the car control (slalom) session.
Karen
finished 13th in pro "class" at DC with 623pts

didnt see the other post, sorry. my total was 557 points, in club class, it was good for 6th overall when i left saturday, but i think i was down to 30th or so after the weekend..rating system makes no sense at all. i asked the score guy and his answer was "its a mathematical formula"
gee thx.
so, pro run was 28secs = 1000 points, and my 30 seconds was good for 557 points. go figure

basically, if you don't get at least a mid 700, you are done. boston next week, my last chance in a feeble attempt to get a bigger downpayment for the house...

Wow, nice Rodney!
Boston is officially open for anyone to win, since I've been officially removed from the list of eligibles to win Boston. Something about you can't win 2 cities..... sheesh.
