Default Problems w/ tranny

At high RPM's I grind from first to second and second to third with the clutch pressed all the way in. Ive called some local tranny shops. One shop quoted me $1,200.00 to replace the synchros including parts (even though this shop didn't know what a Type R was) and the other shop told me it would be cheaper to buy a new tranny because labor would be so expensive. Would it be possible to buy the synchros, bearings, and do it myself along w/ a friend? Has anyone on this board attempted it? I know you will need a press. Is it that hard if you follow a manual? Thanks...

My best friend and I rebuilt his tranny. It was a hybrid of 2 tranny's we had.we were given on that was from a car that had been in a wreck and the actual casing was damaged, but the internals werew fine. The dealer does not sell just the syncros.I would recomend looking for another tranny. It is an easy job to do,just time consuming.

I called the dealer and he said he could sell me just the syncrhos and bearings. What will eventually happen if I keep grinding away? 1st to 2nd isnt that bad, it happens rarely, 2nd to 3rd happens every shift at high rpm's.

If you keep grinding away eventually the syncros will take a ****.My buds did, aswell as some of the syncro srpings. It will just become hard to put in gear without double clutching.

just finished JDM FD install.

press was not required for disassembly of the countershaft. you probably would need one for the mainshaft.

can be done with you and a friend. air tools are helpful, and paitience is required for tranny disassembly/reassembly.
