Default Old seats = wear... anyone tackle fixing them?

I know there are shops that handle stuff just like this. But for the prices they charge you could just get a replacement ... car.

So I'm curious, has anyone attempted to find similar foams (not oem, its insanely expensive also) and "rebuild" the seat bolsters on our older worn out seats?

I'll most likely be trying it with some couch style foam and shaving it to a semi close fit. Then stuff it in and redoing the material at the area with a similar fabric, or just patching the teeny hole i've go in one location.

If you have redone your seat, share ideas/info about materials, technique, results All info is helpfull and welcome.

Actually.. I was recently enlighted. Most of the time it's the Driver seat outside bolster that gets chewed up. But the pass side is usually still mint. You can buy a used pass side seat and swap the foams over to the driver side.

This is what I am planning on doing.

Note. I figured it would be easier to swap the seat belt/buckle assem. to the pass side seat. apparently, it's not possible that way.

I don't mean just rails... i mean the entire rails/tilt assembly. Should have said it clearer.

I'm subscribing to this because I would really like to get some side support in my seats without buying new ones. Think there's a way to take out material in the backing so that you sit back farther, and be "hugged" more by the seat?

Ok, I have first hand knowledge on this subject. I bought a crx pass side seat on ebay, and put it on my driver side. The backings are very close, but not exact. You cant notice, http://www.droppedcrxsi.com under pics to see a pic. You must strip the backings down to the frame, and swap them over. Also a small knotch needs to be made in the side of the foam to work right. The bottoms can be taken out of the pans, and swapped over. They dont fit great, and you need some metal wire to help snug them up. Also the bottoms are a different shape, but close. In person, Nobody has ever noticed that it was a passenger side seat. Ryan

I did the same exact thing you did. Came out perfect, nobody could ever tell that the foam and material was from a passenger seat.

well if you guys were close my dad does upholstery, he made some cool seats from the stock stuff. just cut out nasty foam and replace with good. use eletric knife to shape as desired. then you can get diff. stiffness of foam to suit your likeness.

I thought about that, but that would leave the hole in the middle of the car, alot more visible. Im just going to get som Si seats for like 200 bucks.
