whats a better tranny gsr v. type r
I need a new transmission for my ITR, and i was wondering was would be the better buy, a gsr tranny with lsd or a type r tranny? im not worried about the final drive cuz i have the jdm honda 4.7 one sitting in my room i jus need to know are the gears better in a gsr for N/A drag racing
Type-R has the overall shorter gearing. My tranny has the GSR 4/5 and its extremely noticable when you hit 4th... power(application) just drops.
i'll also vouch for the GS-R power drop in 4th-5th
i'd go with ITR... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=861834

i think the gsr tranny is better than the type-r. since the gsr gears are a bit longer than the type-r. just slap in a lsd in the gsr tranny and your good to go. and btw what makes u think 4 and 5 gear u lose power what are u talking about my gsr runs pretty hard in 4th and 5th gear.

The higher the horsepower and torque and the sooner it is available in the powerband, a taller gear can be more suitable (and especially for straight line acceleration) since you won't lose time shifting gears.
It's a toss up for what's actually better for you, your car and the application. But that's the concept.

unless your car is a highly moded N/A I think the ITR tranny will work best. You won't be making the power needed to make the GSR tranny an advantage.

I know when longer gears can be beneficial. I was asking him though, not Honda-Tech and since we are talking about a B18C5 longer is not going to equal better.
With a GSR tranny you'll also be dropping out of VTEC on the 1-2 shift if I'm not mistaken.

Correct, but he never really mentioned what mods were and or what his plans were totally.
Kyle244947 FYI there are loads of topics on this in the archived posts as to how the R's gearing, changing FD's and whatnot will effect your acceleration, top speed and if it is a good idea for you and drag racing.
