Default yup..another ls/vtec thread.. few quick questions...

in my car now is a b16a. i want a b18 block and have decided on a lsvtec since i can get a complete 94 ls block with 40k on it for super cheap...i havent read much about this swap yet since i just decided on it like 3 minutes ago..

what can i use from my b16 block to swap over to the ls block to make it vtec?
what do i need to purchase to complete this swap?
can i use a mugen 2 piece headgasket for a b16?
is there anything i should do or know about before jumping into this conversion?

ok im off to search for a few hours ..ill check this every couple of minutes

To do a LS-Vtec you have to replace the dowels and get a vtec oil line kit. one bad thing i hear about on the LS/Vtec is the bad R/S ratio. might want to search this topic has been covered forever

yea ive been searching..i havent found to much info about the reliability of this swap or anything..i allready answered all of my questions and found a diy on c-speedracing.com..so far i know what i need, about how much it will cost me,what i can use off of my b16 block....seems like a ghetto frankenstein swap..dont think i want to pursue this one ..im gonna save for a b18c block of some sort

you could buy an ls block and stuff your b16 pistons in there. will put you at about 11.6:1 compression i think. you can use the oil pump off you b16 aswell as the knock sensor. can't think of much else

use the b16 pistons in it and run ARP rod bolts. the rod bolts are going to be for vtec rods so you will need to have the rods resized for the bolts. purchase a golden eagle conversion kit that makes it alot easier, all you will have to do is plug the hole on the bottom of the head. use your b16 vtec oil pump, LS water pump and timing belt. and if you have the money, i would suggest getting a set of ARP head studs also. the head studs and rod bolts should set you back about 225, the golden eagle conversion is about 250, that comes with lines, head gasket, conversion dowels so you dont have to drill your head. and having the block honed and the rods resized with new rings and bearings should be about 250. it is kinda pricey for just factory internals but it is the right way. the cheaper your go and the more you rush it, the worse it will be.
