damm that sucks! I hope things work out for him, he does seem very innocent; although I don't understand how the loose plug did all that damage.
The dealer has to prove that the aftermarket parts caused the failure. Which they cannot prove, of course.... so therefore they buy a motor for him.

tell him NOT to buy it!! My friend has intake/exhaust and AUTOXR on his license plate. Somehow his motor overrevved, bent some valves, they replaced all of the valves and associated parts under warranty!! At 1st they were telling he would have to pay for it, they said the motor isn't suppose to rev over 7k rpms
Also they said the car isn't meant to be driven like a sports car!!!

Taken from S2000online:
They said since I have a Mugen exhaust and header the extended warranty is void. Also, they said that since my spark plug caused the damage, and the spark plug is a maintenance item not covered under warrany, they won't pay for the damage. Looks like I'm screwed.

!Cal - Who was worried about warrantty cover for his own car with just bolt-ons on it, but didn't have a problem yet with Acura dealers. Also, keeping my fingers crossed!
There's an actual act called the Magnussun (sp) act that specifically states that the manufacturer cannot void the warranty from using aftermarket parts unless it was determined that the aftermarket parts are directly responsible for the damage.

That is correct. On cases like these, the dealership CANNOT determine that they will not fix it. Call Honda (the # is in your manual) They will set up a date when a representative from Honda will come and inspect the damages himself. If he finds that the header wasnt the cause of engine failure, then they will pay to get it fixed. Let the truth be known, Acura and Honda Techs do not like working on modded cars. I know I'm a Honda tech.
There was a case of a guy with a Prelude that his t-belt shreaded, did mayor head damage. Because the owner had intake, exhaust, and header, they told the owner that the warranty has been voided with those parts. The owner was smart and didnt fall for their ****. To make a long story short, the Prelude was fixed free of charge. A Honda rep came by, took pics, and determined those parts did not cause the belt to shred.
Most service writters are snakes, they will make less commission if they warranty that R. They rather **** you and make money. Most people think that they are not sales people, and they are not out to screw you. The service writter makes a good amount if he sells you that work. Be smart and dont let yourself be caught with your pants down.
Another case of a member here (i wont say who) blew his engine with a turbo. He tried to get his Integra warrantied after removing all signs of there ever being a turbo in his car. Honda used his car as an example to employees of what to look out for. He ended out paying for them to install a new engine.
It's amazing how people don't read the whole thread before posting. Even in the original thread from the other board, it's obvious that some people don't read or can't understand. If you read the original thread, the owner said this a few times because people keep blaming the dealership:

Actually, it's not the service dept's fault. They don't decide what claims to deny, corporate does. Wesloh has been pretty cool to me and concur that it's not my fault. Honda Care is the one denying my claim. I'm trying to go through Honda public relations right now, but it looks pretty dismal right now.
Actually, it's not Wesloh's fault. AHM is denying my claim. Wesloh agrees the engine failure is not my fault. Thanks BC. I'll see you guys at the track
Yup, I spoke to a claims rep at AHM, Torrance. Then I moved up the food chain to the claims supervisor. Both just parroted the same thing. Then I was told to complain to customer relations. Who knows what other dept they'll shuffle me to next. Bureaucracy city, but what choice do I have.

Second, its difficult for me to believe that a faulty plug can blow an engine. Its function is to ignite the fuel air mixure in the engine....the only way I could see a plug blowing an engine is if it was running hot and causing detonation...but you've gotta be pretty damn stupid not to notice that happening...most likely this guy blew by misshifting or hyper-revving the engine!
What probably happened was the motor was detonating and broke the tip off the plug and scorred the cylinder walls. This would in fact not be covered by hondas warranty.
Buy a toyota!! Honda doesnt give a dam about us or all the money we dish out to them. This wouldnt even be a thread on a toyota board. Sorry just my opinion.
Here's what one guy who saw the engine said:

I saw S2R car in the shop and boy was the spark plug messed up, it was 90 degrees bent and charred rusty to a crispt!! Geez, how could that EVER be a exhuast problem?? We're going to ban WESELOH Honda, my sponsor for my last event.

Can u say all-trac? I dont take offense or want to provoke anybody. Ive seen 91' supras automatic and 91 mr2's with over 120k miles run at least a 14.3 comin thru at 100mph so yes a celica can also. honda's arent the only quick cars around uuuummkkaaaaayy.

You probably right. I still like the old ones(toyota) over the new. The new celica gts to me just needs their special vtec reworked. I saw a gts 2000 hit a 15.1 at the track once.
The dealer does ot have to prove anyhing! Anything other than OEM parts or Honda approved parts can void the warrenty and relieves the dealership of responsibility!
That's why you take that **** off when you go to the dealer with a problem.
