Default High Flow Cat: Good thing? Bad thing?

Had an O2 Sensor code pop-up not too long ago, and I'm thinking of replacing the cat while I'm at it. I was looking at high flow cats on eBay, and was wondering if anybody has any experience with them. Any comments or advice? Thanks.

Get a Random Technology Cat if you still want to pass emission.

If not, get an OBX cat....even though it says its legal i wouldn't trust it...looks like a test pipe

Thanks for the advice . I live in Tennessee, so passing emmisions isn't a worry. Would a high flow cat have any negative effects on the car?

highflow cat, will sound good and give a small gain.

test pip, will sound farty and give a slightly lager gain (so small, you won't notice).

I have a test pipe, and i wish i woulda gone high flow.

I have an H22 also, however when I let off the throttle it's throaty, in a bad way.

Either keep your stock cat or get a test-pipe.

I've heard way too many stories of the hi-flow cats having the brick break loose inside the cat.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

It just happened to me....my random got super hot red / orange and shot all the brick out of my exhaust....damn bricks were glowing when it came out of my muffler.

Looked at my Random cat and all the bricks were gone...

luckly it was after i passed emissions

Its when the honey comb inside breaks apart and is shot out the pipe like a volcano.

I my self im going test, pipe. No restriction, and you never have to worry about "shooting bricks".

Will it pass emissions with a test pipe, or would you HAVE to have a cat on?

i highly doubt it will pass emissions. what you need to do is save ur stock cat for emissions time.

run your test pipe everyday and when its time for emissions, bolt up ur stock cat for the test, then stick ur test pipe back in

I actually won't put a high flow cat on my ride anymore.

I had one on my 94 Civic with a B18 Swap. I had I/H/E and some pullies and so on. I had a high flow cat. My car felt Like it Breathed TOO MuCH.

Like it had TOO much flow. Which if you know can burn the deposits off inside the engine. So I put a stock Integ Cat Back on with low miles on it and the car felt more responsive to the pedal. It was breathing to much before and I lost some top end power but had more low end pull.

was it a GSR or LS motor? Cause i know VTEC motors benefit from having a more "Free" flow exhaust...thats why alot run open headers

it can if u get the O2 simulator....then u wont throw a CEL, since the simulator tells the ECU that the O2 sensor is working properly.
