Engine overheating: radiator, head gasket, water pump, thermo, fans ????!!!! AGH!!
I have a new water pump, and thermostat. I have had the water pump put in by Honda about 3 months ago, and all of a sudden MY ENGINE IS TEMP SLOWLY GOES SKY HIGH! Im getting so frustrated. I looked under the hood, LOW COOLANT! Any AFRIN clue where its going? Nothing on the ground, and i dont see any around the head gasket, I only see something around the bottom of the block but it doesnt seem like coolant. The engine revs funny too when its hot, goes up to 2000 then drops real quick to 1000 then back to 2000. Theres weird filmy **** inside the coolant tank. Happened all of a sudden, i was driving and the temp goes from normal to red in about a minute, but if i rev the temp stays the same, I THINK THERMOSTAT or blown radiator, any ideas?
any smoke? maybe blown headgasket. try draining your oil to see if there's any coolent in your oil. then try doing a compression test or better yet, a leak down test. usually this will solve your problems if you can't detect a leakage from the outside of the car.
no smoke though, compression when i did it a month or two ago was 170-165-165-170. So there could be a SLIGHT leak in cylinders 2 and 3. But wouldnt I notice a difference in power, or some kinda pop? when i changed the oil 500 miles ago, oil was just dark, but seemed to be only oil... what to do...
yeah if that's the case then check your thermostat again. also, did you check the hoses that run in and out of your radiator? if the one on the bottom is cold while the one on top is hot, it's your thermostat.
DUDE! I never thought of that, but theres that weird goop in the coolant tank, is that ok? And if it is the head gasket, im broke, so are they a biatch to change? THANKS A MILLION!
And where the heck is the coolant going? Every so often its low, but when I filled it back up again, engine still ran hot, sounded funky too. So that points to thermostat. And I was told buy a Honda one, cuz I bought one at my local AUTOZONE. Any thoughts?
make sure that stuff in the coolent isn't oil!! also if there's stuff in there, it's a possiblity that that stuff maybe the cause of your overheating problems. try to pin point the problem and then if it is that goober stuff you're talking about, try cleaning/flushing out your coolent. it's a lot cheaper than having to replace your thermostat and changing out a headgasket. anyway, good luck bro!

if coolent is disappearing, there's only 2 explaination for this: 1 - it's leaking somewhere, you may not be able to see it cause it only leaks when there's load on the engine. 2 - your gasket is cracked or blown and slowly leaking, sometimes this goes unnoticed for months in some cars.
there is a 3rd one but that's having a craked sleeve which i don't think you have.

no problem, just hope you get the problem fixed! everyone knows how it feels to have a problem with our huns(tegs)!!
I have that same problem. After getting my water pump and thermostat replaced, my coolant started to mysteriously disappear. There was no coolant on the ground and none in the oil. Turns out the small hose that goes from the radiator to the throttle body
had a pinhole underneath the clamp and was slowly dripping coolant onto the catalytic converter and O2 sensor. I guess I couldn't see it because it only got worse after the engine was started up and the catalytic converter would evaporate the coolant right away. The hose must've been stretched too tight when the guys at the shop put it back on.

also make sure when u drain out the fluid, or is already drained, that u bleed the radiator system to get the air out of it, cuz air pockets cought in the system will cause the car to over heat
