Those of you who installed suspension on 4WS Preludes. Need help with the rears.
Hey guys, I need some help here. How should I pull out the rear shocks?? What's the best way?? Will it require a different procedure since I have 4WS??
I tried pulling the rears out today but it kept getting stuck between the control arm coning from the 4WS actuator.
How should I take the rears out??
Thanks
Andy

On the control arm you'll see a metal cover w/ a 10 mm bolt holding it on. Remove this cover and you will see a crown nut w/ a cotter pin in it. Remove the cotter pin and the nut, and w/ a rubber mallet smack the bolt that the nut came off of. It may take some force since your car is older. Make sure you do not use a metal hammer or even a board against the bolt becuase the threads will get banged up very easily. After a few good smacks it will seperate from the ball joint and the assembly will lower down giving you the room you need to remove the strut assembly.

Well assuming you realeased the upper control arm. ( btw you should use a tie rod / ball joint seperator rather than hitting the bolt with a mallet). To get the clearance i needed to remove the rear shocks i stepped on the lug nuts to push the rotor down and then pulled the shock out.
Exactly .. use the ball joint puller ... on NTPOG.org theres a write-up ..
follow it .. theres not enough room with the tie rods on the 4ws to manouver the suspension out without pulling that ball joint (is it a balll joint?)
I just followed the write-up and out she came.. put it back in and hurray .
although, I never replaced the cotter pin and turned the bolt and snapped it cuz it was all rusted... it seemd to work ok . :D
