My boss got one last week, and I got to drive it today .....
Yummy!!!
Pros:
We took the rollercoaster backwards (back road near work that is all up down and around), and I was so worried about even getting a ding in it that I barely got on it ….
But I've got 3 words when I did ……..
UN-F--KING-BELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!
The power is just right there, no questions asked! I never took it over 5,000 rpm (only 600 miles on it), but it still lifted the front end up when I rolled on the throttle hard!!
Brakes ……. 6 piston have two settings - on/off!! You can't modulate them, you're either braking hard, or you're not. Best braking car I've ever ridden in/driven, hands down. And that includes a Porsche 911 RS America, M3, Type R, and Ferrari Testarossa.
I didn't get into handling hardly at all, only took two corners even close to the level I would have in the R, but it had tons of grip. Didn't get the point where I could tell if it had over or understeer (it ain't my car …. and unlike the Celica GT-S I drove last week, I couldn't afford to fix the it either!!!!!)
I never even came close to the edges of its handling ability, or braking, or acceleration!!
6th gear cruises at under 2,000 at 80 on the highway, and mashing it gives a little pull until it builds. My boss said the peak is at like 6,000, so that is understandable. But if you are anywhere above 3,000, it is like a rocket. I didn't go over 90 though …….
Heads up display is way cool, an totally unobtrussive!
Cons:
Shifter is in a really akward position! With the seat all the way back (6'-1", remember) I still had to pull my elbow behind my shoulder to get into 2/4/6. My boss is even shorter, so I can't imagine!
I don't own one!
Uhhhhh, that's about all I can think of for cons.
To sum up, HOLY S--T, JESUS CHRIST, WHOW!!!! (Accelarate, brake, handling)

Yeah those cars are bad. I raced one a few weeks ago at the strip and I beat him off the line then he flat out smoked me after that. It was cool for that few seconds I was ahead. He ran a 12.5 @ 115mph to my 13.77@ 100. That car is bad ***!!!

I've driven a C5 Vette. There are some things that I didn't like. With traction control on, the car's movement is very restricted. No faster corners with the TC on. With the TC off, I found it very difficult to modulate the gas pedal to a point where the tires would start breaking loose. When I thought I was making a corner fast and smooth, a little imperfection on the pavement would send the tail sideways. Hard to predict, scared the crap out of me.
I'm sure the Z06 is well improved. I hope I could drive one and find out.

They sure looked like 6 piston, but they may be 4 .... couldn't find out on the Chevy site.
After driving all of 10 miles, I got much better at being very light on the pedal. It doesn't take much to stop the car ......

Yeah..I can't wait until my dad turns 55(2 more years). My mom told him he could buy the Vette of his dreams then. He has always wanted a '67 Stingray, but after looking at prices he decided he would just buy a Z06 or the newest version at that point. Tick...tock...tick...tock.

A Chevy that most likely will be faster than any Honda you'll ever own, yet still covered under warranty. I don't care if it's Chevy, if you have a ride in one, you'll change your mind. Personally, I think the C5 platform is mighty nice to look at too.
Wai: I've had the opportunity to drive th C5, but not in Z06 form. It's not that hard to modulate brakes nor throttle. I thought it was pretty smooth actually, and not really that easy to break traction unless you're really pushing it. I didn't want to do it too often, it wasn't my car!
The Z06 isn't a very forgiving car to drive. I think we've been way too used to driving super forgiving FF cars and that really doesn't help too much towards our skills with REAL sport cars. True race cars are even more touchy and it's really up to the driver to be able to control the car. Mind you that the C5 has much more power and handling than most R's. While I can say I can outdrive the R on many occasions, I can't really pull the C5 to its limits yet. I need practice. Anyone got a Z06 I can practice with?

They use PBR 2 piston calipers. Same as the ones you can buy from Baer racing.

yet still covered under warranty
Exactly my point, I have yet to use my Honda warranty.
A long list of C5 owners that use their warranty on a monthly basis can be found at any track event.

hmmm Z06, thats probably the equivalent of a Holden GTS over here in terms of power and price, 315KW...... yes their big, they have torque, they are pretty fast but its still a HOLDEN hahahaahaha, ohh yeh and they break down
There is going to be a 440hp version coming out as an aniversary edition.A close friend has put money down and is waiting on it.You better believe I can't wait to drive that thing.
The Z06 is awesome, but man, there's another car in that price range that I'd much rather have, and it's none other than the new e46 M3. That car is simply incredible in every way, and it's a BMW. (not that I have anything against Chevy)

My boss got it for $49K at 0% ....... hard to beat that!!
Mmmmmm. 405 hp, 0-60 in 4 flat, 1/4 in 12.0-12.4 (driver dependent), top speed of 180-ish, close to 1.0G on the skidpad ......
Yeah, its a GM product ....... but I'd have traded two R's for it in a heartbeat!!

it isn't close to 1.0G it does 1.0G!
and about the new M3, the Z06 beats it in every category, except for interior room and how many passengers you can carry.

The Z06 will continue to be outfitted with the unique six-speed manual transmission for 2002. It will enable skilled drivers to achieve 0-60 mph times of 3.9 seconds and to cover a quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 116 mph. By comparison, the 2001 powertrain combination achieved 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds at 114 mph.

Oh FYI, the Z06 is quite a bit faster than the Holden GTS and quite a bit less pricey too. Saying you don't like it because it's a Chevy is almost like saying I don't like you because you're black. No consideration whatsoever for what it really is and just judge it by appearance and name. Shows what kind of ppl some of us are doesn't it?
I respect all fast cars but have preferences. I PREFER the Z06 over any ITR, S2000 or BMW M3. Not because it'll last me the longest, but because it gives me the best bang-for-the-buck and will run circles around all those cars. That is what I'm looking for. I'm not here to say that because you own a Honda, you're a rice boy.
Sorry guys... I just had to vent. I hate people that judge cars by their name.
wow a yank that knows his cars!!! cool
everyone is entitled to their opnion and my mine still stands, sorry mate.... dont be so touchy and your barking up the worng tree, i dont really give a **** what u think. flame on..........

Damn, so of you guys need to get laid; heated arguments, almost bloodshed over cars that most of us might never own.
Both M3s and Vettes are awesome cars, saying that you'll take one but the other makes you ignorant.
Especially as most of us haven't probably driven either one.
-Kamil, who always wonders if he picked the right car over the regular vette and S4.

You give a lot of R owners a bad name and maybe even Aussies a bad name now!
