Default SW388 vs. Slipstream question for ITR owners...

According to various sites, the 16'' SW388 weighs 11.9 lbs whereas the 16'' Slipstream weighs just over 12 lbs. Are the SW388 really worth the 2k price tags? Anybody have a set of SW388 on their ITR?

I have had the Slips for a while and I get asked all the time if they are Spoons... I could say yes but I tell the truth

But the price I paid for the rims, (thanks Marc) I could not pass and can't see any other rim being worth 8 times the price.

Looks of a rim to me place next to last, I just want performance.

for looks spray the rota flat black and they look the same or get them in other color and make a custom desmond regamaster sticker on it. for performance you pay for quality...thats why they are expensive. light yet strong, they are for racing/togue/track...rotas crack, spoons dont crack as easily

i have spoons and get asked all the time if they are rota slipstreams
LOL

regarding the weights, 11.9lbs for 16" spoon is pretty close. but 12lbs for 16" slipstream seems too low... IIRC, a 15" slipstream weighs around 11-12lbs. so for 16", add on at least 3lbs.

'Worth it' depends on what is of value to you. If you have a race car saving some rotational mass as well as getting a stronger wheel may be worth it but on the other hand you could have 4 sets of rotas for one set of SW388's.

If you do car shows and the like the SW388's will definitely get you more points.

IMO the money you save on the Rotas can go towards other things like suspension. With the money you save you could just about buy a set of full coilovers or you could get stuff for your engine or you could do some track days.

actually most car shows you get points for the size of the rims. only in JDM class do you get points for what kind of rims. and honestly some of the judges are dumbasses. i had 18" volks and rare blue brides in my car and the idiot ask me is that aftermarket seats and says those 18" looks just as nice as the guy down from me...and guess what that ****** had R1s....

Weight is not the only thing to determine if a rim is "worth it" or not.

You can make a rim out of plastic and it would be 5 lbs each, but doesn't mean that it would be awesome, well maybe it would.

I still have a set of 16x7 SW388 for my ITR.

Are they worth it? Hmmm. Depends on what you want them for and what you're doing w/your car, I guess.

They are definitely strong but not invincible. After several seasons of hard track use at the hands of several drivers, we were able to actually break one SW388 but got another one fairly easily from A J Racing.

I doubt a normal user would ever put his SW388 what I (and Corey and Warren and Bryan and Morgan and Stadulis and Oscar) put mine through.

I'd buy them again, if that means anything.
