Default Radar Detector DIY

well, im bored and my creative juices are flowing so im thinking of DIYing a place to put a radar detector just below the radio in that little area, basically make it so that all that shows is the lights of the detector anyone know if that is going to affect the detector's reliability or cause interference with the radio?

You mean that the radar detector will physically be located below the radio, or it is going to be mounted in your grill or something and the display (only) is going to be below the radio?

will physically be located directly below the radio...although rigging that system up would be a fun challenge

the detector needs an unobstructed view to work properly. Just putting your unit below the radio simply won't work. However, there are units that have remote displays that you can put whereever you want.

thats what i was thinking. unless the radar detector can clearly see out of your windshield, which it wont if its under the radio, it wont work properly.

Umm.. yeah the main unit needs to be up near the windshield so it can actually pick up the signal.. IMO its not worth it, trying to seperate all the buttons / display from the actual sensors.. but if you think so. Thats what you need to do.. find out what parts actually "sense" the radar, and hide them up near the window(s), and remote mount all buttons and display. Sounds like a pain in the *** if you ask me.

I actually took my old radar detector apart to attempt this, but when I saw that it was basically one chip board, I gave up. Shouldn't be too hard to do for someone computer savvy.
