I just got an OEM ITR lip yesterday. Originally it was black, but then repainted green. Now I need to paint it Cayenne Red Pearl. The paint seems to be in decent shape. Should I strip it down to plastic or just paint over the old paint? If i'm just painting over, what process should I take? Like sanding with what grits, and do I need primer or no?

 

i would hit it with about 600-800 really well and then hit it with about 1000-1500, then prime it, hit it with 1000-1500 again and spray! But that is just how i do mine when i paint stuff, everyone does it differently. It will work out really well though!

 

wetsand with 400 until there are no shiney spots, wash with dish soap, and spray. easy as that

 

What kind of clear coat should I use? Do I need an automotive kind of clear coat? Does Paint Scratch sell something like that in a rattle can? or would something from Wal Mart work?
