Ok folks I have done searches on this topic but there is kind of a twist. Can you just take the drums off by using the 50 Torx bit and put the donor disc and calipers on without the trailing arm? I have run across searches for this but all of them have the switch with the trailing arm. My donor trailing arm has been damaged from an accident. Need some insight on this. Thanks in advance. Trying not to plague HT with irrelevant questions!

you need that trailing arm. What are you swaping in>> GSR, Si, Type R???

 

GSR rear calipers and Rotors to a 93 Civic coupe SI with drums. I also have all the hardware (lines, cables, etc)

that's good. No GSR control arms??? 93 Si coupe??? there was no Si coupe for the EH chassis.

Good you have all the necessary line, but you need the control arms it was to be a full swap out.

there was in canduh . . . it's the same as the US EX. The Canadian SiR is the same as our Si hatch.

AFAIK, yes you can. The trailing arms are the same except for what brake is attached to it. I swapped the whole arm when I did mine, but I've read threads where people only swapped the brake assembly.

 

You can do it either way. Either swap the whole trailing arm assembly which is the easiest or just leave your trailing arms in and swap over all the disc components.

 

agreed, it will work... i'm in the middle of doing it myself on an extra set i have. It looks like you just undo the 4 torx, and the big spindle nut on the back, and put the disk spindles back on. The disk spindles have the appropriate mounting holes for the calipers.

also i think the torx is a T55 size. if you have any luck getting those torx bolts out (without an impact wrench), let me know how!

 

use a breaker bar or any pipe slipped over a rachet so you can get some leverage

 

Yeah when I took the Torx nuts off I had a ratchet and I used an old seat post off my bike. Thanks for the help.

well i did try using an 18" breaker bar, with the trailing arm wedged up against a table leg, and my friend standing on it. The problem isn't torque, its grip. The torx bit just wants to twist right out of there... i'm probably just retarded but do you guys have any other tips?

You must be using the wrong Torx bit. Make sure its a 50. Someone said 55 but I tried and that was just a little too big. Other than that. The mountain bike seat post was a nice leverage tool!

 

I swapped the hubs over without using the trailing arms and it worked perfect. It is kinda hard to take the torx bolts out without an impact wrench. I used a bad a#s Snap-on impact...

 

don't forget, you still need the right e-brake cable.

you guys are right, my memory serves me poorly. I went outside and it is a T50. I mixed it up because i bought 2 bits, a T50 and T55, and returned the T55.

I was about to try doing the rear disc that way, but I ended up swapping the arms anyways cause I stripped the torx bit in there for not using an impact driver sooner........oh well, they were on the drums anyways.....

 

thanks for finding that one, i was working on the same thing....

 

Go and buy a impact driver one of the hand held ones that you put the torx bit into and when you hit the head with a hammer it turns the bit at the same time. I use one to take off front rotors all of the time.
