Default Quick opinion needed-Tranny related?

What i hit i have no idea but, i know have a hole in my tranny casing about a quarter inch in diameter. Now...do i have no choice but to replace my tranny or is a rebuild possible? Keep in my that i did throw a bearing about two months ago that i have been driving around on. Also...i found a guy selling a used tranny with 16k miles on it and he wants $1100, sound fair? I offered him $1000 and if he'll take it i think i am just going to buy it. Any comments, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. I am rather pissed about having to spend this money but **** happens i suppose.

If it was me, I would just replace the case-that is, if no internal damage was done by running with low tranny fluid.

How much would the casing cost....? All i need to do is replace the bearing inside the tranny. Running low fluid for the short period of time that i did didnt hurt anything. I just have yet to open it up and find out whats going on for sure. Runs fine though!

i'd find out the current condition of the transmission before moving on
if the internal are bad than, new transmission
if the case is bad , then new case for around $300
if the case has a hole where it isn't a load bearing piece, than maybe $30-50

My buddy had a small hole in his case, we were able to get it welded for $30

Just talked to Len and he quoted me $313 for the one piece on the motor side and $290 for the other which holds the gears. I only need the motor side so maybe this will be an easier fix then i had thought.
