remove the 'heat shield' from hood
I've noticed a lot of people have taken that clothlike stuff off from the underside of their hood. I've been thinking of doing this, but I always thought it was there to protect the paint finish from the heat of the engine bay. Can I remove this without any problems with the engine's heat affecting the hood? Thanks...
itll make the paint dim quicker... from all the heat reaching the hood instead of some of the heat. but who knows, maybe it wont even make a difference.
That stuff on the hood is isulation...it keeps the heat away from your hood. I haven't seen it on a car for a while :shrugs: mine does ok without it (never had it on to begin with) and its a 90.
but why?
they are the for a reason, have you see hood with spider web cracks on the paint, it's caused by the heat form the manifold.(imfamous 2nd gen Eclipse problem)
is like you saying you want to hit a gal you met at the bar without rubber, why chances it?

Im almost positive that it is the for safety reasons...it is a fire resistant blanket. If the engine catches on fire, the plastic buttons holding the blanket melt and the blanket falls on the engine smothering the fire.

Or not. If the engine catches fire, what is a blanket gonna do?
I've always been told that it is more of a sound deadener than anything else. It is made of the same material found on the underside of the carpet.

me too, even with my T4 turbo and engine spun up to 11,000 rpm yO! j/k but really even with the turbo (actually t3/t04) I don't have any issues w/ the paint on the hood

here's a dumb question why take it off??? i can't imagine it being that heavy so your not going to save much weight. it may look kinda ugly, but last time i checked i don't see too many people driving with their hood up.
