Default Insurance will not allow me to upgrade my air intake

Hey all

I have a 98 GSR stock... I would like to upgrade my intake but I am limited with my current insurance agent. I am thinking I will replace my stock filter with a K&N or something similar. Is it worth it to remove the resonator? Will I notice any gains or just a whole lot more engine noise?

Why would you tell your insurance agent that your getting an intake? AEM intake is legal in 50 state, so why wouldnt the insurance let you put it on. you dont need to let them know that you put it on... just go buy a ghetto ebay intake with k&N filter and keep your stock for whatever need...

Previously I had a 95 accord with rims...springs...fresh paint...etc.
It was stolen and I told insurance about teh mods after it was stolen (hoping I would get some $ back...but if not...i was ok with that since I wasnt up front). They told me that since I didnt tell them about any of the mods..they would not cover me for them....and they would not cover the whole car!? Long story short they paid up...but it was a battle

My insurance is State Farm.

So with this car, I am making sure they know about everything. I am not getting screwed twice. Agent says that any modification increasing HP is not covered.

What else can I do? I am under my dad's policy...so I dont wanna switch companies...Insurance is cheap now.

Sorry to say but it may be hard to find an insurance company that openly allows engine modifications.

just do it, if you get your car stolen, losing a $100 doesn't really mean ****.

Lose State Farm

Also, the only reason you report mods to insurance is to make sure the extra value is added and COVERED.

They have to specifically write it into the coverage. If its only $100 ****, dont sweat it.

If its a $8000 cunstom paint job and $10K in ICE, then get it covered (Be ready for your premium to increase).

with hondas being HOT these days sometimes you just have to get your stuff covered. If your just going to put a CAI then screw it...100 bucks is nothing. but when you invest more than 10k in parts (turbo) then it might be worth it in the long run.

yeah i wrecked my h22 hatch and my mom told insurance that i had a motor swap trying to get money for the motor since it was totaled and then a week later i got a letter from insurance sayin that i have been canceled because the 1993 civic hb was being used ofr racing so you must get a commercial insurance company. well i sold the car and now im back on the insurance policy. damn insurance is strict!

just put it in and if your car gets jacked say they stole the stock intake, im sure that cost more than a aem v2.

It pays to be honest
