Default Timing Belt Question

A buddy of mine put a timing belt in his '00 Si with 112k on it already.. he just got hte car and it doesnt seem to have been tuned or had the valves adjusted ever.. the car ran fine before but after puttin on the timin belt and new drive belts, the thing sounds like a diesel.. its havin trouble idling but the car revs out fine.. .. so he adjusted the timing and then got a few codes, something like: system too rich, manufacturer control auxiliary emissions (bank 1) and something else that made reference to bank 1.. tia for any help

HE HAD TO OF PUT THE BELT ON WRONG ONE OR BOTH OF THE CAM GEARS MUST BE OFF TO TOOTH OR TWO. JUST CHANGING THE TIMING BELT WOULDN'T MAKE THE CAR RUN LIKE THAT IF IT WAS PUT ON PROPERLY

Sorry to say but do it again

Just having changed the belt and nothing else wouldn't make the car run like ****. He skipped a cog on one of the gears. Valve adjustment doesn't have anything to do with it right now. Is it a good idea to get one done? Sure. Is that's what's causing the problem right now? NO. I'll put money on it that he's off by a cog or two on one or both his cam gears.

He put the belt on wrong.

If he put it on right, it should run the same or even better (though unlikely) with the new belt.

He must not have had the cams in the exact positions and spun them at some point on accident. He's lucky he didn't crunch a valve yet.
