Default Axles, should I replace?

I was debating weather I should replace my axles or not. Both of my outer cv boots were spilt in half but I did replace those with the cv boots that have screws on them but they are begining to open back up. I checked my inner boots and yes they are spilt in half too. The car doenst have make any clicking noise when I turn but at times makes this werid metal to metal noise that kind of sounds like clunk. I was thinking about replacing them with pep boys or advance auto part rebuilt axles. The thing is that I dont really have the money for them right know but agian I dont want to get stranded anywhere. I have heard that they cost about $70 per side and thats after you return your old ones and get the core charge. Ill probally buy the parts myself but will have a shop do the work, around how much labor am I looking at? thanks in advance and yes my friends I did search.

generally your not in trouble until they click when your driving straight - on the other hand you definitely want to take it easy on them in the mean time - ive seen what happens when they come apart when driving and it aint pretty - i dont like Pep boys and labor will probably be as much as the parts or a little less

It will probably cost over $100 per side, and then when you return the old axles, you will get some money back, making it about $70 per side in the end.

You have the choice of driving it like that until they dry out and you NEED to replace them. You could change the boots and add some grease and hope they last, or you could just go get some new axles and have piece of mind. If your car is ABS make sure that you get ABS axles.

He already replaced the boots once w/ those POS split-boot replacements.

i would change them myself it's pretty easy plus it will make a hell of a mess if you don't...And you don't need a shop just a driveway and some jack stands..

I would but I am not sure that I would be able to finish the job and I dont want to get stuck with my car opened up

Last night when I was driving home, I kept on hearing noise that kind if sounded like a thump it felt like it was coming from near where my clutch pedal is.

dood they are mass easy to replace. no need for a lift or special tools. just basic stuff there. 70$ re-cored axles are a good deal to.

you do need a 32 mm socket....i consider that kind of a special tool. It's a really easy operation. I got new ones from shucks for like 70 after i gave them my old core. One of them already broke like 2 months after i got it. I'm pissed. But i as well am on a budget so thats how it's going to be for now.
