Default Gas gauge

Recently I installed a new gas sensor in my due to the fact that my other one was completely messed up and was jumping around and wasn't steady. Now, after having done so it seems to be empty when the gas gauge shows at 1/4 because my car died from no gas, so I was wondering if there is anyway to in a way "reset" the gauge to agree with the new sensor or any tips to help it become more accurate or anything.
Thanks for any advice.

btw, I'm new on here. Hello to everyone.

welcome to H-T, my friend. Frankly, I say just forget the guage and go by your trip. Calculate your gas mileage, and see how long you should be able to go on one tank of gas. then, just alway fill up the tank completely at the pump and remember to reset your trip odo and you should be fine, just dont cut it too close.

your gas sensor meaning the "fuel sending unit" ?? thats what usually fails. and makes the gauge go nuts, but yea i go by trip also, just remember your mileage before your next fill up and go from there...

If the fuel gauge is still showing 1/4 and the tank is empty, you need to verify the sending unit float and arm are dropping all the way down when the tank is actually empty. First verify the gauge is operating correctly. Disconnect the wire harness at the top of the sending unit and measure the voltage between the yellow/blue wire and the black one. There should be 5-8 volts. If not, check for an open in the yel/blu wire or a problem with the black (ground-G757). If that checked out ok, install a jumper wire between the yel/blu and black wire. Turn the ignition on and observe the fuel gauge operation. It should go to the full mark. Shut the ignition off as soon the gauge shows full or you can damage the gauge. If all is ok to this point, remove the sending unit and inspect the operation of the float and arm to make sure it is actually dropping all the way down. Get out your multi-meter and check the resistance of the sending unit. Connect leads to the a and b terminals on the sender. With the float and arm in the empty position, the resistance should be 105-110 ohms. 1/2 tank is 25.5-39.5 ohms. full tank is 3-5 ohms. If any values are not within specs, take the POS part back and get another one. BTW you can't reset the fuel gauge. I hope this helps. pm if you have questions or need clarification on anything posted here.

Thanks for all the help. It is much appreciated. I think I'll go by the trip for now, and maybe in the future fix the whole thing. Thanks again.
