Caster Adjustment on 88-91 Civic Hatches
Hi All,
I just bought a 89 civic but the front wheel is sitting off abit. I want to adjust the caster so the wheel can get some possible caster happening. This is possible right?? I noticed the front radius rod attached to the sussy and the front Crossmember which *may* help adjust the caster..
How do you adjust the caster? Or do I need to modify this rod to do it.. Please help. I want to move the front wheel about 1 inch forward to give me about 3-5degrees positive caster..
Help
Dave

stock suspension can only be adjusted to some extent. You need to replace your balljoints to an adjusting one (specialty or progress) that adjusts your camber/caster...
I dont believe our 88-91 hondas came with a caster adjustment. We have radius rods, but they arent for caster adj. On a stock suspension, the only thing that can be adjusted is toe. You can buy kits for the camber but i think thats it. Also, maybe an aftermarket front crossmember with aftermarket radius rods will allow you to adjust a little bit for positive caster, but not much.
If one of your front tires is sitting too far back in the wheel well, you may want to inspect the bushings at the front of the radius rods as they are most likely worn or even missing.

He's right, but it IS possible to adjust/gain a tiny bit of caster (like 1/2 a degree maybe) with aftermarket camber kits, b/c there is usually a little slop in the mounting points of the new upper mount to the unibody (under the shock tower area).
OR, it's possible your caster will be off from left to right after installing an afermarket camber kit (this happened on my car using the 2-fixed-position adjustable Progress front camber kit on my CRX) causing the car to pull pretty badly when driving in a straight line with no ruts.
