Try AutoX first. You can learn the limits of your R there. Then graduate to some Driver's Ed on roadcourses. You won't regret this advise.
Mods are definately in the works, but don't go with cheap crap on your R.

Congrats on getting your R. Since you live in NJ a rabid hungry pit bull is a definite for a security device !
The best thing for your ITR is no mods right now. You will be surprised at how well the car is in stock form. Check my website below, come out to a few autocrosses and you can see ITR's with top 10 raw times and placing first in PAX. In the correct hands, the ITR is an amazing stock car.

I just have a AEM on my 00PY, and am probably going to put the stock intake on and try to do some scca next spring. Saw a new celica pulling a trailer with tires on it, must've been going autocrossing. Raced some on a 1/2 mile kart track last year, at first you get the biggest grin on your face, then you get determination to beat that porche that takes corners on two wheels.
some adjustable shocks and Rcompound tires, are all I'm looking for. Of course the best 15X6" rim out there, which would be ????
