Default Seat Belts Dont Work

I recently picked up a project CRX, and the seat belts wont lock up when I pull on them quickly. I was going to go for a rollbar/bucket/harness but would rather retain the sleeper look and spend the money elsewhere. So can anyone give me some insight to what might be wrong? And how I could fix it?

as far as i know(and have been told a few times)Honda issued a recall on the "retraction mechanism"(that pulls the seat belt back down into the pillar)and i would have to assume that also has something to do with it not "locking up"..my "retractor" has been broken the entire time ive owned my crx(i just manually "help" the belt back down into the resting spot)but..thats pretty scary knowing it wont lock up..i havent tested mine before like that but i know it did work a few months ago under normal "slamming on the brakes to avoid an idiot" testing scenario

Don't fix it and take it to the dealership..and see if you can get them fixed for free

ALL HONDA SEATBELTS HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY
if they don't retract right all you have to do is open it up and clean all the dust around the rollers. Now if the belts won't tighten up then it is a safety issue and honda will replace the belts for free of charge.

trust me i've been working at a honda dealership for 7 years

I have heard that seatbelts have a life-time warranty. Maybe it is the law. I actually read a thread somewhere where someone took their CRX back to the honda dealership and asked to have them fix it. They said it was out of warranty so the guy said contact Honday-USA. Honda said fix it.

I have a CRX with a non-retracting driver's side. I'm gonna go this route soon. Try to get it repaired 'in warranty'.
