Street Classes: Fiberglass hood/fenders/bumper OK - 1 piece front Not OK?
Just curious about this. Why is it that you can have every single part on your frontclip be made out of fiberglass, but if its tied together in the form of a one piece frontend then it is not ok?
I am not trying to start any arguments (well I kinda am?) I am just curious.
I have seen people run the 1 piece on the street with holes cutout for headlights/blinkers....it actually doesnt even look too far from stock really. More stock than some of the super racer bodykits?
I guess in my head it just seems like if you have fiberglass hood, fenders, and bumper you basically have a one piece frontend that just happens to be in 4 pieces.
Side question, are the one piece frontends that still utilize a hood considered legal?
My mustang racer friend says its an aerodynamic thing (ie, cant use tape on hood/fenders) but is that really the reason?

Because the 1 piece is not legal on us highways. You also in most cases have to remove the bumper supports which eliminates the crumple zone on the front of the car. If you drive 1 piece on the street and were to hit a pole or something, your engine would end up on your lap. With Fiberglass fenders you still retain the front bumper beam(well your supposed to...)
This is just my opinion so dont flame...

Well, I could follow that except for the fact that everyone ends up chopping the bumper support to fit the FMIC anyway.
No flaming for sure. I was just curious so thats why I asked. I am not really planning on running a 1 piece it just seemed odd that you could have an entire fiberglass front clip for the most part but not a 1 piece.
I guess the aerodynamics thing makes sense. How much difference does that realistically make I wonder?

Speaking of fiberglass body parts, any word on trunk lids at NOPI events?
If I need to swap on the steel lid can I just pin it on?
