As post reads. My bro has a 88 Trans AM GTA stock(auto). I know nothing about these cars. Hes been talkin mad **** on imports and how my car is slow and purple(which it isnt). Theres nothing more than I want to beat his ***. Heres some things that are on my side. Ive raced several times, especially at Eatontown, so I know when to launch and how to. Hes never raced at the track. I have better tires than him and my car is manual. I ran a 15.2 last time i was there.

Should I buy and intake or something just to make sure that I beat him. I really dont want to lose. We bet $20 on the race and that doesnt even matter to me, its the bragging rights. Also, if anyone could get me numbers on his car that would be great. Thanx.

 

first off, dont plan on getting an intake and getting that much power. And bragging rights are lame if you ask me. And tell him hes lame too for wanting to race 1/4 mile with an auto car next time he starts talking **** about your car, all he has to do is step on the gas whoopdie do. My friend has a camaro too and he talks all this **** and how he has to launch right with his car, ***** please don't compare racing an auto to stick. And besides I just tell em all my cars for autox and I know its not that fast quarter mile

seems like there were two engines. the tpi 350 and a carbed 305. whats in your friends. the tuned port injection engines were way faster than carbs. so it depends, i think the 350 might be able to run low 15s if its in good shape. make sure you launch good. if he beats you, and you drove good, theres nothing you can do. but if you drive like ****, youll be beating yourself up and he'll think hes the **** cuz "i got a 350 foo"

well if it is indeed a 350Tpi watch out man, Ive seen Iroc Z's with the motor run 14's and ive read an old Car and Driver where Late 80's 5.0 stand vs Iroc (which is the same as the GTA) and the Iroc ran 14.4 Quarter with its auto The key is 345lb's of TQ, so just stay in your revs, maybe take him on a rolling start? go first gear race u in vtec and him at the end of his powerband lol.

 

put your stock rims back on and drop tire pressure. You can go to a muffler shop and have them make you a custom 2.5" piping cat-back to your muffler or get a performance muffler. If you plan on modding your car, and exhaust will always help for the future.

 

i believe you are going to get your *** handed to you. You are going to need some bolt ons to maybe have a chance... all the bolt ons you can get.

 

Yeah thats what Im thinking. The only chance Im hoping for is if he jumps the light. That or if I PL and he has like a 1.5 second reaction time. That or if I take out my 68 Cutlass and Romp his monkey ***. ****!!!! I hate losing.

Bragging rights means more to people sometimes.

 

Gut out any unnecessary interior for the race (rear seats, spare, etc...).

 

only 1 way to tell.. go race and find out.
