JL rates their amps at 12.5 volts. Most running cars with a good electrical system (upgraded alternator, optima, etc...) will run over 13 volts and up to 14 volts. So at 12.5 Volts, the least power it will probably see, its still 500 watts, at 14 volts it probably more towards 600-700 watts of clean undistorted bass

Actually the regulation circuitry in the JL amps is designed to make the amp put out the same power from 11-14.5 volts and 1.5-4 ohms per channel. They may still underate them to assure quality, though.

But I bet they dont push as clean and pure sounding as the JL does.....I really didn't want to spend the money for a JL 500/1 but now that I have it, it was all worth it...

To defend my position in saying not all amps are created equal, I'm not pullin' for JL amps- I'm just saying they are expensive for a reason. I run Precision Power (scattered distribution across the US, many haven't heard of them). They are spendy but well worth it. Again I state, not all amps are created equal, and amp selection can be more important than sub selection, especially for those desiring clean and accurate SQ.

Are you joking!?!?! PPI is one of the most recognized brands in car audio - their quality has dropped off lately, but regardless they are extremely well known...

I think they have improved since they were purchased by DEI, but they are no longer the benchmark they were in the old days. They did end up collecting a bit of a bad rap in the couple of years before the DEI deal.
