what makes the hf light?
no sunroof and no big tranny basically only 4 speed and did i mention the sunroof my std only weighs in at like 1900 lbs its an 88 hatch http://resource.crx.org/tips/crxweight.htm
Yea the HF has no sunroof, passanger side mirror, the interior is striped (no clock, and cargo area stuff), the engine is a 1.5l 8 valve, on the average the HF is only about 250 pounds lighter than the Si. It also goes 0-60 in 12 sec. Now isn't that a speed demon.
I had a 90 si for about 8 months after driving my 89 Hf with a zc for a year and I went crazy trying to get the nice feel of the HF (read: feather weight) out of my piggy Si. I went so far as to strip the interior and add a turbo. Sure, the turbo helped but I couldn't get to liking those awful door mounted seatbelts and how they made the doors so heavy that the entire car rattled to death every time I closed the door.
I eventually rebuilt my HF and put all the si goodies like brakes and interior into it. I just upped the boost to 9 psi tonight and I'm shitting myself with pleasure. Hard work payed off.
The 89 HF is the only way to go. Period. Sunroofs are a luxury and they don't belong on a purposeful car like the CRX. Just my opion.
Peace dogs.

True...the HF has a very different feel becuz its light and i like the handling. The 91 has a 5spd (atleast mine does) and i took it up to 75mph in second racing a 95 civic...surprizingly i was still next to him...the only thing i i dont like is the 60-64hp it cranks out...so...with a little money and more money...i'll make it a 10sec. car...haha...yeah right
Peace

HF has a 5 speed tranny.
Besides the 4 speed BASE tranny is less than 1 lb lighter.
The BASE tranny and HF are the same ratios for 1-4 and FD, just the HF adds a 5th gear.

the bulk of the weight savings on an HF is in the engine.
the rods are very thin, it only uses 8 valves, the exhaust manifold
is very small and it incorporates the catalitic converter.
if you then add the fact that it doesn't have a sunroof, no rear wiper
no sound insulation like the Si, lighter (uglier) seats, etc.

the side impact door beams are thinner on the hf so are the brake rotors.
the type of **** that makes it lighter is not much to brag about i dont think.

The main elements that make the HF lighter are the lack of door mounted seatbelts in the 88 and 89, no sunroof, no rear wiper, no sound deadening, no rear sway bar, smaller engine, crappy seats, little brakes, little bumpers. The side impact beams are the same.
I took my hf and put all the si goodies like breaks and seats in it and lost all the other stupid **** like sunroof and rear wiper. That gives me the right to brag because it was a lot of work to rebuild my car from scratch and swap in a butt load of Si parts. To give you an idea of how much stuff I took from the si I even took all the wiring.
The only weight I saved was in the body related elements and not the breaks and detachables like that.

Me and my buddy dumped a B16a with 75 shot into his HF. Pulled 13.1 on street tires, its scary fast but one shitty car to drive. The car is way to loud, everything rattles and it feels like its going to fall apart. Once I get my b16a broken in, I think my car will be way more fun. My sedan doesnt rattle at all, it also handles great with the hasport kit and lsd. just my .02
no power windows? that sucks.I'd be pissed if I bought an Si and I got a sunroof but not power windows.????My HF doest have em but I always thought Si's did.
Did 88-91 civics have power windows??
