Hey everyone. This weekend, I took my car to the wash and sprayed the engine. Get on the road to drive it, and it's misfiring. The first thing I think of is the distributer cap, because I used an aftermarket when I did my maintenance. Sure eough it was (water all over the inside), so I got an OEM one from the dealer.

My question is, for the 2 - 5 miles I drove it to the dealer while misfiring (it through a CEL as well) could this have caused any damage to my engine? Everything runs fine now, like it never happened.

Also, on a side note, the tech at honda said to touch the + and - terminals together to reset the ecu to clear the code, and it worked.

just a wild guess maybe check your plug wire order maybe u have the plugs on the wrong cylinder

 

you should be fine, a missfire from wet ignition parts wont cause damage

A miss fire like you described would not cause any problems with the engine - basically what it is doing is that spark is not getting to the plug, or not all the time. So, you'd have a cylinder running really rich. Rich could shorten the life of your cat, but not for 2-5 miles.
