why are 929rr so cheap compared to other bikes?
im in a market for a bike, and i keep running into these ads for a cbr 929rr for like 6-7k for a 99' or 00'. im like wtf, im lookin at sv650s for 4gs and for another 2gs i can get a 929rr? whats the deal with this? why are they so cheap? is there something to watch out for on those bikes?
6-7k..?
That's on the high side. They usually go for 5-6.5k. There's nothing wrong with these bikes (even though there was a recall w/ clutch in '00 models). One factor for the low price is that 2 updated models are available after the 929 (954 and 1000RR) and another factor (which is a big part) is that most people want Suzuki GSXR 750/1000 or Yamaha R1's. The gixxer and r-wheezy keep their value pretty well because of the demand.
The 929 is a great bike, and is hard to beat for the price. Honda motors kick ***!
BTW: 929 came out in 2000 and ended in 2001

So true, everybody and their mothers want a gixxer.

yeah, i want a gixxer too. but like 5-6k i can get a R6 or gsxr600. im a first time rider(less than 30 miles ridden) and want a bike for value in the long run. would getting a 929 be worth getting instead of a gsxr600/R6 or save a little and get a begginer bike (sv650) at fraction of the price but upgrade later on. im looking to spend about 5k for a upgraded bike, or use 3-4k for a less agressive bike.
buying the SV for your first bike would be like 5 million times smarter than buying the 929.
Assuming that you don't give it too much gas the first time you pull out onto a busy road and loop it, or grab the front brake in a panic the first time you come into a corner too hot and lowside, you will learn much slower than someone starting on a more forgiving bike.
SVs are extremely popular, have tons of aftermarket parts available for them, and are also far cheaper to insure than 929.

Gixxers are garbageeeeeeeeeeeee... not really. I just hate their riding position being a taller rider. The 929 is much more ergo friendly for me and is plenty powerful for the price...
i'm not very fond of gixxers either...also hated the riding position.
I bought an f4i as my first bike(learned on my ex500 in neighborhoods). But if i had to do it again i would have gotten a 954rr instead of my f4i. Dont get me wrong, my f4i has plenty of power. I just would like more power to bring it up in 3rd gear easier. either way i'm still satisfied with my f4i.
929rrs are great bikes as well. I actually thought about trading my bike in for it as well. You cant beat the price on these bikes. You can get a decent one for under 6k.

svs are great first bikes. mine is actually my second bike. my first bike had too many reliabity issues. i've learned to ride on this bad boy, but i had about 1500 miles on a 94 zx6e under my belt before i got it. great bike but i don't plan on having it for next riding season.
