Default More Oil consumption, more wondering where. (I've tried to search, just not getting the right answer

115K on 96 gsr, just switch to castrol GTX high mileage (20w50) and still burning appx 1 quart/1000 miles. we all know this oil is as thick as maple syrup and shouldnt burn much at all, what the hell is going on here? I have heard a rumor about some of our b/h series motors having this problem from the day they were purchased. I am told it has something to do with valve guide clearance. I have not had a chance to do any real research till now, but one of my sources, was a 20 year honda master tech and was unfortunate to own a prelude that cooked oil like it was lard on a diner griddle from the day he bought it (new). is there something I am missing here? could use some help on this before i decide to detonate the c1 for an excuse to buy my c5 sooner. if anyone would like to save my b18c1, please feel free to throw it a knowledge lifeline...

Can someone fill my ignorant *** in as to why/how VTEC burns more oil? I have an idea, but not entirely sure...
