My civic sounds like a lawnmower now?!?! HELP
I blew my old engine, so I put a new one in. I'm pretty sure everything is right, but when i start it...it runs....it just sounds like a lawnmower when you press the gas. any ideas???? Also...when i first got it runing the other night, it would idle around 2000rpms. what could it be? anyone have a vacume hose diagram?

could be a crack in the exhaust manifold as well, but it can be that u didn't bolt the downpipe to the cat tight, or the b pipe to the the cat tight. U didn't forget any exhaust gaskets either, right?

heh, my civic idles at 300, no really it does... But taht's just good for gas savings and occasional stalls... Maybe I should adjust my idle.. but it is kind of cool when ppl look at the tach and think the car is off..
I think your right, check the vacume hoses. My bud had the same problem with the h22..... it was a hose on the intake manafold (i think) ill find out for ya.
Did you install a set of blades under it?
j/k
Sounds like it may be exhaust..
did you put the donut gasket back in the pipe at the header?

Same. Also my spark plug seals where gone. Replaced them and my plugs and it was fine.

hahaha how can that save gas. u need to push more gas to get the car goin smooth . its bad for the engine.
like they all said, most of the time it would be the exhaust leak somewhere, more like an hole somewhere or u forgot to put a o2 sensor in.

Actually it still idles around 300, now i have a new muffler and the car dying stopped. I'm happy with my new muffler, looks stock, not horribly loud, and it was cheap. It's a dynomax superturbo. Keeps the cops away from me, unlike my previous hayame...
But I have heard a lot of ppl saying that any honda with aftermarket exhaust sounds like a lawnmower, so i guess it could be a personal opinion...

its a d16y7, i use to have the y8, but i blew it...and i dont feel like gettin a mini me, but anyway, i put it in, its from a 00 civic NON VTEC ...i used my old 97 vtec intake manifold on the non-vtec head, it bolted up good. shouldi not have used it? also i went to the dealership today and looked under the hood of the same modle cars....with the same intake man. and they had a sensor on the back by the throttle body but the side closest to the firewall , mine dosnt have that, it still has the 3 sensor splice because i used the same VTEC wiring harnes....thats why i used the VTEC manifold, but ya, instead of being on the back by the firewall, i have one on the underneeth part by the throttle body...(the underside) is it the same...or am i totally missing a sensor?
today it started runing better, dosnt flxuate so much revs at a constant 1700rpm ...i mess with the screw that messes with the revs, dosnt help. the exaust is hooked up.
also, i started pulling out all the sensors on the intake, to see what happened...everyone gave me a response but one. it just stayed the same when i took it out. and of course i tried the one on my cold air intake...it didnt do anything....but i didnt expect it to. You guys hook me up man

first thing i would do it a process of elimination. check your exhaust, done. now go through you vac lines, make sure they are all hooked up right, then check your electrical, make sure all plugs are good, cap and rotor are fine, the wires arent screwed. after that i would go over fuel, make sure all the injectors are hooked up, easy way to check that is run the car and pull one plug off at a time, you will know if its working or not. you could also check your timing, make sure its not overly retarted or advanced. good luck with it
