Default Worthy ITR replacement?

A freind of myne owns a dealership and can get me an excellent deal on a 2000 corevette c5. What do you guys think? A z06 is way out of my price range. As far as handeling aspects how does the vette hold up? I have owned my R for 3 years now and would like something: A) With some nice torque B) Handels up to par with the ITR C) Rear wheel drive.

A Corvette will never feel like an R (not saying it feels worse or better). They are just two totally different cars it is hard to compare.

I suggest going to a Corvette forum and read through their pages or ask questions there. Most of us do not have powerful RWD experience.

Good luck ! (I love Z06's too bad it was too expensive)

The scariest expereince I've had in a car also happened to be the fastest I've ever been in a car with Berger in his Z06 at the Glen last year.

If and when I can I'll have a Z06 or it's comparable offering but I wouldn't ditch the R for it.

The Vette and an R are Vastly different with virtually few equal if any comparisons.

The handling packages make a difference. See if you can find an article in Car and Driver last summer where they tested all the C5 variants (Stock, ????, Z51, & Z06). It identifies all the different components in the different C5 models down to spring rates, shock diameters, sway bars, etc, then provides test results (skidpad, braking, slalom, etc.) for all of them.

They even shod the lesser Corvettes with the ZO6 wheels and tires for another comparison to level the playing field amongst the cars. Very interesting article and a must read for anyone purchasing a C5 (even if you bought a base model, you'd likely want to upgrade to the Z51 or Z06 specs).

They are apples and oranges cars. I drove my uncles and it's so night and day, I can't imagine having it in place of my R.

I wouldnt trade my ITR for a Vette. They just feel too big, and unconnected to me.
I would trade in a second for a Z06 though.

How about considering an older NSX? Razor sharp handling like the R, with much improved power, torque, amenities...

M2 is gonna be based off of 2-series model (a notch below 3-series). 2-series is definitely coming out... if M2 will be available remains to be seen. (There is a mag w/ M2 info... supposedly I6 stuffed into a smaller 2-series chassis. ) That would be the perfect daily driver. Price should obviously be lower than M3... so around $40k-ish.
