Shaved side mouldings...
Ok guys, here's my situation...for a little over 2 years, I have had my 97 Civic coupe shaved of it's door handles & side mouldings for what I thought then was a "clean look", but turns out now that I am not really "feeling them" like I once did. Now, for sure sometime during the summer I am going to get my car repainted...again & will be equipping my car with door handles for sure with the help of new door skins. Now here's my dilemma: I want moudings back on my car since I will be getting new door skins, so fitting the new mouldings (CTR
) to the new doors wont be a problem. I am also going to invest in a used pair of CTR fenders (with the sidemarker hole & a place for mouldings)...Now all that is left is the rear quarter panels...I'm not 100% sure if "un-shaving" them is going to leave my car looking like utter ****, I beleive that when they were shaved, there was some sheet metal tack welded on and filled with body filler...I have heard that getting them look oem quality again is going to be next to impossible...Can someone who has had some kind of body shop experience please verify?
I guess to make a long story short, I'm asking for opinions....should I invest in the new fenders & mouldings & have the rear quarter panel's body filler & sheet metal knocked off to make way for the moldings?.....or should I just say "screw it & fill in the moulding indentations from the new door skins in order to keep the same "shaved moulding look"?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
TIA, -Vic

That's what I was thinking or you can just get the handles and leave the moldings off.

would probably require more money than its worth. I dont know what the big deal is to be quite honest, people are just used to mouldings being there. Cause the new accords and tl's and **** dont come with mouldings. They are an add on accessory that you have to have glued onto the car

dont have any help for you on how it would turn out if you put the moldings back on...i personally dont think it looks bad at all shaved. maybe just put the door handles back in. if you do decide to "de-shave" - ever thought about taking the molding out and leaving it as an indentation in the door...IMO it looks pretty damn good.....just a different option for you!
just throw the handles back on, leave the moldings shaved...looks clean!...lets just say you let the shop try and fix the rear quarter panels and it comes out shitty....you'll just have a headache and be pissed that you have a clean *** car with shitty panels!
if sheet metal was tack welded to cover the molding, behind the metal should be somewhat hollow. What i would do is cut out a strip along the rear quarter panel where it is molded (with a dremel of some sort), and then slowly grind away the metal, filler, welds. From there you can rework everything if the metal hasn't been warpped in any way.

just add the new doors, shave the moldings, keep the handles.
shaved moldings don't look bad, and your car looks good w/out them. but i'd opt to get the handles back. good luck!

Get new doors? I can't help. Sorry.
