What are "PR" codes?
This may be a stupid question, I assume everybody knows...
I keep seeing people talk about PR3 etc, this and that, and I see it on part numbers. Is this some sort of version number or revision number for Honda hardware? How does this system work and which parts does it apply to?
Thanks,
zelifcam

I don't know the exactly technical term, but you have the idea. PR3-XXX is an identifier of sorts, it is used to associate certain parts, for instance the ITR/B16 heads are the same cast so they share the PR3-X number, it also identifies ECUs, piston, etc used in this mix...As far as the heads castings go, there hasn't been any correlation I have seen between say PR3-3, PR3-4, PR3-2 etc...seems to be fairly rendom.

Go to this link and look at the part about the ECU numbers.
http://www.hondata.com/techecuid.html
Basically all Honda part numbers are arranged like this:
XXXXX-XXX-XXX
First part is for the part itself (i.e. 37820 = ECU)
The Second Part is for the partuicular part itself (i.e. PR3)
The third part is the revision of that part.
This is true for all parts that Honda makes from ECU's to the little clips that hold your trim on.
Since all ECU's start with 37820 and noone really cares about the revision number people just refer to the identifier number (i.e. PR3)

I guess I can take one tomorrow, but you'd have to take my word for now,but I know the 96-98's have it because I have seen the two here on post, and a couple others around town.

Haha, I guess not
you won't find p73 on any type r engine only on the ecu, the head casting on my jdm 98+ type r is pr3-2, pr3 is also for b16's(like some of the others said)
